Before I started coloring my hair, I had a lot of doubts and misgivings about using Hair Color. Even though I needed it to cover my white strands, I was worried that hair color might be difficult to apply at home and would damage my hair terribly. In this post, I have addressed some common myths regarding hair color ~
Myth #1 : Hair Color gives a dry, damaged look to the hair
It depends on the type of color you are using. Permanent dyes and bleach do cause visible dryness and damage but semi-permanent hair colors are much gentler on the hair and cause minimal damage. I have been using semi-permanent hair colors for a while now and my hair doesn’t look dry or damaged. But few years back when I had experimented with highlights (which was done by bleaching few section of hair), my hair did look excessively dry and straw-like. To preserve the shine and health of your hair, I would recommend going with a ammonia-free, semi-permanent hair color like the L’Oreal Paris Casting Creme Gloss.
Myth #2 : Hair Color causes premature graying of hair
This is completely false. Graying of hair is governed by genetic factors and to some extent, stress. Gray hair results due to deterioration of the pigment producing portions of the hair follicles. As we get older, the production of the type of melanin that gives a specific hair color decreases and hence hair gets lighter and more translucent with age. So all this action occurs at the hair follicles which are not affected in any way when we color our hair!
In today’s post, I’m going to show you a step by step pictorial of how to color your hair at home. The hair color of my choice is the L’Oreal Paris Casting Creme Gloss Conditioning Color which is a do-it-yourself, ammonia-free, semi-permanent color. I’ve had a few white strands since a few years and sadly they are all in the front hence very visible. I started using hair color every few months to mask the white strands and the L’Oreal Paris CCG has been a favorite!
I have used the shades Dark Chocolate, Chocolate and even Black in the past. Today I am using the shade #316 Plum.
Lately, I’ve been getting a lot of hair-related queries and I thought it’d be a good idea to share some tips that have helped me get healthier looking hair. I have very dry, wavy hair that is prone to frizz. I’ve experimented a bit with chemicaltreatments – smoothening and hair color and both left my hair very damaged and dry (Especially the color). Lately, I’ve been following a good routine and my hair is in much better condition than it has been in a long long time. Hope you’ll will this post useful!
Its the Weekend and its time for the fun post of the week! I tag all of you to answer the 5 Questions in this segment. I look forward to reading your comments!
1. Weekend plans?
My Mum is coming over for a day so will spend time with her! Also need to start packaging for Diwali trip home!
Pictured below : Me with Mum a long time ago..(I was probably 10 or 11)

2. Have you ever colored your hair?
I got highlights done long time back, didn’t like it so much as it made my hair look drier. Recently got an all over color done (dark natural brown) and I like the natural healthy sheen it gave to my hair. (I got it done at a Salon, they used L’oreal salon range hair color in Darkbrown – Ammoniafree one). My advice to those who have dry frizzy hair – don’t ever get pale highlights (light brown or blonde), it makes the hair look like straw!
