What are your bedside beauty essentials?

I like to keep a tube of hand cream, some body lotion and a lip balm next to me when I sleep! And a bottle of water – if that counts as a beauty essential! Currently I am using the Crabtree & Evelyn Himalyan Blue Hand Therapy (review), Lip Baby in Sweet Cherry flavor (its a local product) and a Dove or Vaseline body lotion to counter any dryness in the middle of the night.

Cleansing Oil, Cream Remover, Cleansing Water, Wipes : The best makeup removers?

As much as I love putting on makeup, it can be a pain to remove at the end of a long, tiring day! However, if you skimp on this process, you can easily end up with breakouts or worse – eye infections! I’ve experimented with loads of makeup removers in the past ranging from budget finds to high end removers. I always like to have a few different types of removers with me – one for heavy duty cleansing and one for the lazy light makeup days. However currently, I have ended up with 4 different kinds of removers thanks to a Duty free haul few months back and I thought a post on makeup removal would be apt!

Here’s my take on different kinds of makeup removers –

Cleansing Wipes :

The easiest and laziest kind of makeup removal! I don’t generally trust the regular wet wipes for my face (too much alcohol) and the only wipes I’ve tried are the Bourjois Express Cleansing Wipes (pictured above)  which do a pretty good job except with very stubborn waterproof mascara. I’m reserving these for my lazy days and for traveling. Neutrogena and MAC also make good cleansing wipes but the Neutrogena ones aren’t available in India sadly. I’ve also heard good stuff about the Ole Henriksen cleansing wipes.

Cream Cleansers/Cleansing Milk :

Cream cleansers basically have a lotion or cream like consistency and I’m not a big fan of these – simply because the ones I’ve tried haven’t been that great. Either they are ineffective against waterproof makeup or too heavy for the skin. I particularly remember using the Revlon one few years back that used to sting my eyes and make them cloudy! However the Bourjois one (pictured above) I picked up Delhi Duty Free is surprisingly nice! Its light weight and doesn’t feel heavy on the skin, removes water-resistant makeup well (not waterproof though) and has a refreshing cucumber+aloe scent! I’m curious to try out the Colorbar cleansers in the future – they have different ones for different skin types and I’d love to give them a go. Have any of you tried them out?

How often do you use face masks?

I generally try to use a face mask at least once a week though I have gone on weeks without using one at times! For the last couple of months, I had been using the Forest Essentials Narangi and Nagkesar Ubtan on and off. Before my wedding, I had been using the Avene Cleanance Mask too at bedtime and loving it! Unfortunately, I forgot all my face masks in India along with many other skin care bits. Which isn’t too bad because I’m now exploring more home made packs and sheet masks (which are very popular here in Japan!).

Beauty Chat : Does the attitude of sales staff affect your purchases?

Clinique Store
Clinique Store

[note color=”#FFEECA”]I was in the Colorbar store over the weekend to check out the new skin care and some new launches and I was really happy with the sales girl who attended to me. She wasn’t pushy and didn’t make crazy claims about the products. She answered all my queries with a lot of patience and had a good knowledge about the products and in general about beauty. I don’t often have this kind of experience in stores and I ended up buying a little more than I had intended.

This got me thinking about how interactions with the sales people, the decor of the store, the product displays etc. affect how much we spend in a store. In my case, there is definitely a co-relation. I do not feel like buying many products when the sales staff is unfriendly or the store is too crowded and displays are crammed into a small space (I’m looking at you Health & Glow!). Its even more annoying when the sales staff tries to mislead customers and I have, on some occasions, corrected the girls at the counters or intervened when I see them blatantly fooling customers. Some experiences have even put me off brands/stores completely and I end up frequenting stores where I have a pleasant experience.

Some stores that I love going to are Clinique, MAC, Parcos (I love Parcos!), The Body Shop and most recently, Colorbar (though its quite small). Which stores do you frequent?

Do you sample products before buying?

Beauty Samples
Beauty Samples

[note color=”#FFEECA”]I generally like to get samples of foundations and perfumes before purchasing. I do ask for skin care samples too when I’m buying products but I’m really bad at using them up! I have skin care sample sachets all over the place 😐

Whats your take on samples? Do you ask for samples while purchasing products?[/note]
