My Current Night-time Skincare Routine

Night-time Skincare Routine 1

Hi everyone! My skincare routine is perhaps the most requested content on my Instagram and I thought I’d share it in detail in a blog post. Before I get into the products I’m using currently, a little bit about my skin; I have combination skin that has a tendency to get very dehydrated. I don’t have major pigmentation issues, my only concern apart from dehydration is a bit of texture. Without proper exfoliation, I get dead skin buildup and rough skin quite easily. So I’ve tailored my routine to address all of these concerns. I love taking care of my skin and this routine may be a little elaborate for those who are just starting out with skincare! But it has been working really well for me, so hopefully my product recommendations will help those of you who have a similar skin type.

CLEANSING

I do a double cleanse and ever since I’ve adopted this practice, my skin has been clearer and brighter. The first step is an oil-based cleanser to break down all makeup and sunblock that I wear during the day. I’ve been using the Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil (INR 1570, buy online here) for this step which you might recall from one of my Nykaa haul videos. This is a rich, cushion-y oil, it smells lovely and does a decent job of breaking the makeup down. Only certain waterproof mascaras are super stubborn and they require an eye makeup remover but it gets rid of all other makeup. It emulsifies with water, forming a milky emulsion. It doesn’t however wash off the skin completely. It leaves a slight residue behind which I don’t mind as I use a foaming cleanser in the next step anyway. What I love about this is that is makes my skin very VERY soft. It feels gentle, doesn’t irritate my skin and feels really pleasant to use! It contains natural vegetable oils and is vegan and cruelty-free. Its also free from parabens, ethanol, artifical coloring, silicones and steroids. A solid choice for all skin types, though the brand does recommend this especially for oily and acne prone skin.

Step 2 of my cleanse is the Laneige Multi Deep Cleanser (INR 550, buy online here) which is a fantastic cleanser for all skin types! Its a foaming cleanser but it doesn’t dry my skin out. It leaves my skin VERY clean and fresh. I had received a sample of this to try and I loved it so much, I HAD TO pick up the full size. I have loved everything I have tried from Laneige so far and this is no exception. Highly recommend it!

EXFOLIATION

Right after I wash off my cleanser, I pat my skin dry and use The Face Shop Smart Peeling White Jewel (INR 808, after discount, buy online here). This is a non-abrasive exfoliant that contains natural cellulose fibres that take off the dead skin buildup from the skin. When you massage this on dry skin, the cellulose starts peeling off in the form of small fibres off the skin. The formula has pearl powder as well that gives a glow to the skin. I’ve noticed my skin texture improve drastically since I’ve started using this. You can use this everyday, its gentle on the skin but you will see a noticeable change; the skin feels softer, smoother and brighter with each use! This is also currently at a 15% off on Nykaa, good time to stock up!

SERUMS

Within 10 seconds of washing my face, I use the Belif Numero 10 Essence (INR 1740, buy online here). If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know I’ve been loving Belif products since their launch roughly a month ago. This is a super hydrating essence that has definitely made my skin more hydrated and supple with regular use. It has a gel-like consistency, takes 10-15 seconds to sink into the skin and has a subtle fragrance which I really like. Containing the herb rose of Jericho, this essence locks up moisture and increases skin hydration level, it helps in keeping the skin hydrated and also boosts the effects of the next skin care product you apply. Do note that this needs to be applied within 10 seconds of washing your face for best results! I would recommend this to anyone who wants more hydrated skin, the formula is suitable for all skin types.

I follow the Belif serum with the Glow Recipe Pineapple-C Brightening Serum. Glow recipe is an American brand inspired by Korean skin care secrets and I’ve always found myself drawn to their products whenever I’m in the US. This isn’t available in India yet unfortunately. I picked it up from Sephora is New York last month. The first thing you notice about this is the beautiful glass bottle mimicking a pineapple! This smells like pineapple too as it contains 22% pineapple juice (one of the most powerful forms of natural vitamin C). Apart from that, this has pure Ascorbic acid, and stable 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic acid to combat acne scars, dark spots, and hyperpigmentation leaving the skin glossy and even. The AHAs in pineapple juice help in gently exfoliating the skin. I’ve only been using this about a week and I love it so far. My skin does feel quite glossy right after I apply this (it has a slightly sticky, gel consistency) and I can’t wait to see how it works for me over the next 4 weeks. Vitamin C is one of the best ingredients for the skin, helping with lightening dark spots, boosting collagen production, making the skin more even – you can’t go wrong with it! And just for your knowledge, if you can find Vitamin C in conjunction with Vitamin E and Ferulic acid, its just the most effective combination for the skin!

EYE CREAM

Once my face serums are done, I use the Laneige Eye Sleeping Mask (INR 2070, buy online here) in my under eye area as well as the brow bone region. This is a product that had intrigued me for a long time (I love their Sleeping mask for the face!) and I finally picked it up. You can get this from Nykaa in India though I bought it from a Laneige store in Singapore. This is a very light weight, serum-like eye moisturizer that helps in increasing the moisture levels in the under eye area whilst helping with puffiness as well. I don’t have severe dark circles so it’s hard to say if it’ll work for people with serious pigmentation. For me, it helps in moisturizing, de-puffing and brightening my eye area which is really all I need so I’m happy! It also comes with this ceramic ball applicator which I find quite fun to use 😀

MOISTURIZER

The last step in my current routine is a nice, thick, creamy moisturizer and I’ve been LOVING the Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream (INR 1670, buy online here). My skin isn’t inflamed or agitated or sunburnt but I still love using this as it makes my skin super soft, very nourished and really glowy! This is meant to be a recovery cream that helps calm agitated and stressed skin. Its star ingredients are Guaiazulene, a natural component extracted from Chamomile oil, which carries powerful skin calming abilities, and Centella Asiatica, which helps hydrate and relieve redness. Its more of a calming rather than moisturizing cream but it just works for me! I have to say, I’m very impressed with whatever I’ve tried from the Korean brand, Klairs, so far. I realised that all the products I’m using right now are Korean (or K-beauty inspired) only when I was putting together this post!

Hey Ankita! That’s really a detailed blog on skin care. Thankyou ☺️ Will exfoliating daily helps in reducing dead cells and unclogged pores? Also it would be really great if you could share tips for very dried and dehydrated lips.

Hi ankita, you are using so many products in summer, this are all high end products which is out of my budget.Do recommend some reasonable alternates for these products.Using so many products does not make your face greasy??that too in summers!!As I faced, even got pimples and switched to just applying aloe vera gel in night.

Hey Ankita, loved the blog post. I have a few questions: 1. For double cleansing, I do remove my makeup with the Garnier oil miceller water and then wash my face with a face wash which is either the face shop rice water cleansing foam or plum green tea face wash. Does this count as double cleansing?
    2. How do you manage to apply the numero 10 serum in 10 seconds after washing your face? Do you apply it on wet face or pat your face dry and then apply?
Also I tried the Klairs freshly juiced vitamin drop serum and I think it caused break outs on my face, since then haven’t tried anything from Klairs. But eyeing the calming cream.

Haven’t use any of these products. However, do look forward to trying these out 😀
