Fenty Beauty by Rihanna : First Impressions

Fenty Beauty by Rihanna

Hi everyone! Rihanna launched her makeup line, Fenty Beauty, a few weeks back and the beauty world can’t stop talking about it! The first batch of products were mostly complexion/face products along with a universal shade of lip gloss. I picked up a few of the products to try out (couldn’t resist all the buzz!). I placed my order directly on the Fenty Beauty website and used a mail forwarding service (ShipOutFromUSA.com) to get the products delivered from US to India.

I picked up the foundation in shade 270. Since its a fairly new brand, swatches of all the foundation shades together weren’t easy to come by so I had to make an educated guess to choose my shade. I also picked up the primer, the lip gloss and a highlighter duo. I haven’t tested the products properly yet but I wanted to share my first impressions of the products with you.

GLOSS BOMB – Universal Lip Luminizer ($18)

This comes in a universal rose-y beige shade with ultra fine shimmer and incredible shine. I do love a glossy lip and this nude shade gives a lovely juicy shine to the lips. Its not too opaque so I like using a mauve pink or deep rose lip stain underneath this to add some color. The texture is very comfortable; non-sticky and super hydrating. I was on the fence about how unique this would be (it’s a nude lip gloss after all), but there is something about it that makes me reach for it over and over. I think its the feel of the formula – it doesn’t sit in a thick, gloopy layer on the lips and instantly hydrates and softens the lips. I can see myself using this for a long time. I like the look of the packaging as well!

KILLAWATT Freestyle Highlighter Duo – Mean Money/Hu$tla Baby ($34)

I’m really pleased with this highlighter duo (though I’ve used it only once so far!). The packaging has a very unique look and even though its plastic, it doesn’t feel cheap. The textures are really nice; creamy and soft but not powdery or loose. Both the colors are fairly warm, Mean Money being a softer highlighter for a subtle glow while Hu$tla Baby being packed with high-shine shimmer. I like my highlight to be on the softer side so I prefer Mean Money for most days but I like having the option of a stronger highlight should I feel like doing a full-bodied highlight! These double up nicely as eye shadows too and I love how seamlessly they blend into the skin.

PRO-FILT’R Instant Retouch Primer ($32)

I love primers and lately I’ve been very religious with prepping and priming my skin before foundation application. The primer has good reviews overall and since its supposed to give a soft matte finish, I thought it should work well with my skin. The beige-blush colored packaging is gorgeous. It looks so unique and elegant! The texture of the primer is like a soft gel-cream, it actually feeling quite moisturizing but as you gently massage it onto the skin, it seems to sink into the skin leaving a soft, smooth canvas for the foundation to glide. It doesn’t feel very matte but its not dewy either, so “soft-matte” or satin-y would be a good way to describe it. It has a very mild, barely-there scent.

PRO-FILT’R Soft Matte Longwear Foundation #270 ($34)

This was the most underwhelming product for me among the products I picked. 270 is not the perfect shade for me unfortunately, its little more orange and slightly darker but I think I may be able to work with it, perhaps by mixing a lighter, more golden/yellow foundation with it. The consistency is a bit on the thicker side, and it sets down very quickly into a matte finish (which is not something I generally like in foundations). The coverage seems medium-high. I may warm up to this in the future, but I didn’t love it as much as the other products. If you have dry skin, you definitely rich a moisturizer underneath this.

    1. Hi Aliya, it depends on the weight of the package and there are always some custom charges also involved. I paid around 1200 for the shipping for these products.

  1. Wow love to read all your reviews always…. will be eagerly waiting for this products to be used in your tutorial will love to watch them 😍😍😘😘👍🏻👍🏻

  2. Hi Ankita,

I wanted to know whether you were charged with customs??
I have never placed an order for more than 50$, so was curious to know about customs.

    1. Hi Nidhi, I did a bank transfer to the shipping company’s account. They are very responsive on email and provide you options to pay.

  3. I’ve been reading your blog for so many years now.. Love the way how all the focus of your blogs and videos is just the quality of the content.. I also admire the humility with which you present the information, knowing how pretty you are 😉 I’ve never seen you either brag too much about a product, or complain or say something negative about any product..
Great job, way to go! wish you loads of success in all your blogging/vlogging endeavors!

  4. Probably 290 would’ve been more your shade. It apparently oxidises quite a bit.
Just been doing a bit of research on their stuff. Had a look at them in sephora and won’t be buying. Not worth the price in my opinion. The Becca backlight priming filter is gorgeous and I find the Mac strobe creams pretty good as a primer and for a bit of understated glow.

    1. The BECCA primer is amazing, so luminous and lightweight! I love MAC Strobe Cream too, also like the Lustre Drops mixed in with moisturizer or foundation.

  5. Thanks for the review! I want to try out so much from the brand but I’m struggling with the foundation shade as well. I’m gonna wait it out till there are more reviews out there.
