Hi everyone! I was invited by MAC India a couple of weeks back to attend their Spring-Summer 2017 Trends event. It was an interactive session with MAC India Senior Artist Sonic Sarwate about the hottest beauty trends this season. Its all about individual expression when it comes to trends this year. Makeup is more real than ever before and that doesn’t necessarily mean natural, but real in terms of what is ‘real‘ to you. Wearing a bold flick of kohl may be natural to someone while to someone else, a pop of color on the lips may be what makes them feel their best. Trends are more flexible than they’ve ever been before and its all about your own interpretation of a look. Some of the other trends this season are wet (glossy-looking) makeup with strategically placed highlights, color, which may be in pop or subtle form and monochrome makeup. While I’m not one to follow trends too closely, they do give some fresh ideas and inspiration fpr trying out new looks!
I also received a goodie bag at the event with some pieces from the Makeup Art Cosmetics collection for Spring-Summer 2017. MAC has collaborated with 3 makeup artists to create this HUGE collection! Thanks to MAC India for the generous gift! I’m sharing quick thoughts on the products I was gifted below.
M.A.C Makeup Art Cosmetics Full Face Kit: Moons Of Saturn | INR 3500
This kit contains 2 cream colors – a pop of coral blush and a shimmering champagne-gold highlighter. The bottom compartment has a powder bronzer in a light golden-brown color. The color combination is gorgeous and very summery. I loved the cream-to-powder formula of the blush and silky softness of the bronzer. The products blended effortlessly into my skin, giving a very natural sun-kissed flush. The packaging is quick sleek and I like the fact that the powder and creams are in separate compartments so there is no cross contamination. I think this is a fantastic kit for medium-toned complexions! In case you’re interested, this is available at Nykaa as well. For deeper skin, there’s another kit called Moons of Jupiter which looks equally stunning!
M.A.C Makeup Art Cosmetics Dazzleshadow x 4 : The Shining Hour | INR 3100
If you’re a fan of shimmer, you would really like this eye shadow quad. The eye shadows are more like pressed pigments and don’t provide much color coverage, but plenty of glimmer and sparkle. These are best used over a base, especially a darker base and one that is slightly tacky. They do pose a little bit of a problem during application because they are somewhat dry in texture. But once you use them damp or over a primer, they do give a lovely effect. I don’t think this quad is for everybody and it does need specific application to make it work. But if you specifically want something that can be used over a regular eye shadow for a sparkly effect, you could try this out.
M.A.C Makeup Art Cosmetics Studio QuikTrik Stick/Diane Kendal | INR 2990
The new MAC QuikTrik Sticks are double-ended, creamy, multi-use sticks that come in various combinations of contour, highlight and blush colors. I have the one called Sheen/Smoldering which contains a light champagne highlighter on one end and a deep brown contour on the other. The formula of both the cream products is thin, emollient and easy to blend. They do retain a little bit of dewiness on the skin which helps with the ease of blending but also means lesser wear time. The formula is not very compatible with Indian summer conditions, especially on people who already have very oily skin. And that’s the only reason I don’t love these that much. But I can see myself reaching for this during the cooler months when my skin is less oily.
M.A.C Crystal Glaze Gloss : Love Your Body | INR 1800
This is very much like the tinted lip conditioners from the permanent line, just a lot sheerer. The formula is neither too thin nor too waxy, it has the lovely vanilla scent that is MAC’s signature when it comes to lip products, and the formula feels very VERY hydrating. The color looks super bright in the pan but its almost translucent on the lips with barely any color. I really like this for day-to-day wear when my lips are feeling dry. Because it doesn’t add too much color, you can wear this under or over lipsticks too as a regular lip balm. Only downside? You need to dip your fingers into the pot or use a brush but since the MAC pots are quite wide brimmed (and don’t require digging into the pot, getting product under your nails!), I don’t mind that much. If you have dry lips, do give these a try!
M.A.C Makeup Art Cosmetics Lipstick : Paramount | INR 1500
Paramount is a deep brick-brown with quite a bit of red in it. Its one of those colors that looks different on everyone. On me, it leans more towards wine-red than brown. This is supposed to be a satin finish but its more creamy on me. The lipstick is well pigmented and gives an opaque wash of color to the lips. I found the formula mildly hydrating and comfortable to wear. Its a very flattering brown that should work on all skin tones!
