Hi everyone! The MAC Shadescents collection, which consists of 6 fragrances inspired by the most iconic MAC lipsticks, hits Indian stores on March 17th! They have relaunched the 6 lipsticks as well in a limited edition packaging and I have to say, the color-coordinated tubes looks really sleek and beautiful. There are 6 lipsticks (Rs 1500) and 6 coordinating perfumes (Rs 4500) in this collection – Heroine (purple, matte), Ruby Woo (deep red, retro matte), Lady Danger (bright coral red, matte), Candy Yum-Yum (bright neon pink, matte), Velvet Teddy (neutral nude, matte) and Crème d’Nude (pale beige, cremesheen). I received the Ruby Woo set for review. I am a HUGE fan of the lipstick so I was quite keen to try out the perfume.
The packaging of the perfume is beautiful, I think it looks really sleek and striking. The perfume is described as a woody floral so I was expecting something like Estee Lauder Modern Muse Nuit, or Carolina Herrera Good Girl, just a little deeper because of the leather note. I would describe this as a smoky floral which on my body chemistry, and in the warm Indian climate, comes out quite intense and strong. It opens up with the warm, smoky leather note, which has a slightly masculine feel to it and it dominates the scent for a good 45 minutes, after which it tempers down to let the floral note take over. Its definitely not a very sweet or feminine scent, I think it almost has a unisex feel to it.
Despite starting off quite strong, it doesn’t stay too long and vanishes after 5 hours on my skin. I’m slightly disappointed because I was expecting a sensual bold fragrance, which embodies the femininity and richness of the lipstick. I personally don’t like the smoky leather note as it reminds me of cigarette smoke. But scents are very personal, very subjective and everyone’s body chemistry interacts differently with fragrances. If you’re contemplating buying this, do try it out in the store to see how it works on you.
Ruby Woo lipstick is the most gorgeous red lipstick in my opinion. Its a rich blue-red, really intense and striking, very long lasting and very matte. Its the kind of red that looks amazing on every skin tone and that is why it has such a cult following across the world! I’ve had it since a few years and it my favorite red lipstick. If you’ve been looking for a striking rich red, do check out Ruby Woo. And if you’re already a Ruby Woo loyalist, you might want to grab the limited edition red and black tube!
The lipstick is priced at Rs 1500 while the perfume retails for Rs 4500.
MAC Shadescents collection will be available in stores March 17th onwards.
