MAC Mocha Lipstick : Swatch, Review

Hi everyone! Today I’m reviewing Mocha lipstick by MAC which is a wonderful warm nude for Indian complexions. I’ve wanted to try this lipstick since a long, long time but its often sold out in stores. A few weeks back, I went to the MAC store to return some empties and to avail the back-to-MAC products and to my surprise, they had Mocha in stock! Here’s my review of this lipstick.

Price : Rs 1450

MAC Mocha Lipstick

This is a permanent shade in the MAC lipstick range and comes in the standard black tube packaging. This is the Satin finish formula which is smooth & creamy in texture and comfortable to wear. As the name suggests, the Satin lipsticks have a slightly creamy finish and are more forgiving than the Matte lipsticks. The lipstick glides easily on the lips, has good coverage and would cover uneven lips without difficulty. I find the formula mildly moisturizing and has a decent staying power of around 3-3.5 hours on my lips. It has the signature vanilla scent that all MAC lipsticks have.

In terms of color, this is a fantastic light peachy brown that makes a very flattering nude for medium complexions. The color doesn’t wash me out and the earthy, peachy tones work well with my warm complexion. If you have medium to dusky complexion and are searching for a flattering warm toned nude, do check out Mocha by MAC.

Rating : 4/5

Hey Ishita, haven’t tried Mehr yet. Always thought it would wash me out but thinking of giving it a try next time I visit the MAC store. I’ve begun to like neutral colors a lot more than I used to earlier.

Hi Ankita, Its a lovely lipstick and suits you well… Can you provide a make up breakdown for this look for the eyes and rest of the face..

Hi Renu, for the eyes, I used Estee Lauder Chained Shadow Paint as base and then added a reddish brown shade (Addiction eye shadow in La Mamounia) all over the lid over it. And in the end, I used MAC Carbonized eye shadow which is a deeper chocolaty brown in the outer corner of the lid and near the lash line. Little black smudged liner along upper lash, mascara and finished off with Model Rock #43S False lashes.

For the face, used MAC Strobe cream as a base all over. For foundation, I mixed MAC Matchmaster 3.0 with a little bit of Face and Body C4. To conceal, I used Matchmaster concealer 5.0. To set everything – Clinique Loose powder. For the cheeks, theBalm Bahama Mama Bronzer to contour, Chanel JC blush Malice on the cheeks and a liquid highlighter from The Body Shop for the cheekbones.

i’d really love to try this out, it looks perfect as an everyday work-wear shade.. the only lipstick i have from MAC is taupe, it’s also a nude but slightly more brown and more matte than this

This is a nude kind of shade.. Would u plz recommend some mac matte lipsticks for darker skin tone?

      July 7, 2016 / 11:59 pm

Hi, you could try MAC Retro, Brick-o-la, Craving for deeper skin. Not all of these are matte but you can mattify any lipstick by dabbing on a tissue and dusting a little loose powder on top. If you’re looking more bolder shades, try Ruby Woo or Diva for a nice red.

Hi Ankita, can u plz suggest a Mac pink lipstick for daily purpose? I have a doubt, wats the difference between Ruby woo and Russian red lipsticks ???I have oily skin which Mac compacts suits oily skin vter Studio fix plus foundation or blot pressed powder, among tis which one is best for oily skin??

    • Ankita Srivastava
      July 20, 2016 / 12:54 am

Hi Preethi, I really like Brick-o-la for daily wear from MAC. If you’re light-medium complexion, Mehr or Cosmo would be nice on you too. For medium-deep complexions, Craving and Amorous are nice colors. Ruby Woo is more cool toned (pinkish undertone) while Russian Red is more of a neutral red. Among powders, sorry I have not tried Studio Fix powder or blot powder from MAC so can’t say which is better. But I’ve heard that the Studio Fix powder generally works well for oily skin. If you want a compact with coverage, go for Studio Fix. If you want something to just mattify without any coverage, the blot powder would work. Hope this helps!
