Moroccanoil Smoothing Shampoo & Conditioner – Review

The Moroccanoil Treatment is one of my all-time favorite serums and recently, I tried out the Smoothing Shampoo & Conditioner which has just joined the ranks of the Moroccanoil hair care range. The products come in the standard blue bottle (for shampoo) and white bottle (for conditioner) packaging. The products have the signature warm scent that is consistent across all the products from the brand. I love the luxurious fragrance and it does linger on a bit after you’ve washed your hair.

The Smoothing range is meant for unruly and frizzy hair and my hair fit the bill perfectly. My natural hair is quite wavy, voluminous, dry and prone to frizz. I had colored and straightened my hair last year so I was struggling with maintaining the half-grown out wavy bits and straight ends. But ever since I got my hair cut and removed the damaged, chemically treated ends, my hair has been much easier to maintain with the help of the Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner. This is a hydrating range containing Argan oil & Argan Butter that helps tame frizzy hair and make it more manageable.

The shampoo lathers well and if you’re in the habit of oiling your hair pre-wash, you won’t have any trouble rinsing out the oil using this shampoo. It doesn’t however feel drying or harsh and doesn’t leave the hair dry or tangled like stronger shampoos might. The conditioner feels rich and smoothing and detangles the hair without weighing it down. My hair feel soft after a wash and the waves are more defined and smooth. They feel less dry as well and the frizz is definitely reduced. But since its the peak of summer and my scalp is on the greasier side, I alternate this shampoo and conditioner with the Rene Furterer Melaleuca Shampoo which is not as rich and more clarifying.

The products are color-safe, free from sulphates, phosphates and parabens. They feel nourishing and luxurious to use and help in taming unruly, frizzy hair. Their smoothing action is due to infusion of amino acids into the hair shaft that helps mend disulfide bonds and align the hair shaft. Choosing the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type is really important. Using the right products cuts down styling time significantly and I have to just run a serum through my hair after a wash to give them a healthy, polished look. If you have very frizzy, unmanageable hair, I’d definitely recommend the Moroccanoil Smoothing range for you. For damaged hair, the Moisture Repair range may be a better choice. If you’re confused between the two ranges, here’s some information from the Moroccanoil website –

Q: What is the difference between Moisture Repair Shampoo and Conditioner and Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner?

A: Both feature reparative properties, but they serve very different purposes. Moisture Repair Shampoo and Conditioner infuse damaged, weakened hair with proteins and reconstructive keratin to strengthen the hair shaft. Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner contain AminoRenew which restores amino acids back into frizzy, unruly hair. This infusion mends broken disulfide bonds, which helps to align the hair shaft— resulting in more manageable hair with a smooth appearance. Additionally, the two collections address different primary need states: products to repair damaged hair vs. products to tame and control frizzy hair.

Moroccanoil products are available in select salons in India. You can get them online at as well.

I have been meaning to try Moroccan Oil since ages. But I would always prefer to stick with organic Argan Oil products which performs much better than the diluted versions of Moroccan Oil products.
