The Body Shop Fresh Nude Foundation, Shade Adjusting Lightening Drops | Review

Over 5 years ago, when I first started learning about makeup and putting together a basic makeup kit, I bought one of my first foundations from The Body Shop. It was the oil-free one which worked quite well on my oily, acne prone skin and I believe I almost used up the whole bottle before moving to others. I love foundations that give a natural, fresh finish so needless to say, I was very curious to try out the Fresh Nude Foundation from The Body Shop that hit stores in India last month. This hydrating foundation claims all day comfortable wear and 24 hour moisturization. Though globally available in 16 shades, only 7 have launched in India but there is still a fair bit of variety.

I would have normally gone for the shade 40 or 45 but since this was accompanied by the launch of the Shade Adjusting Drops that help you lighten any foundation shade, I decided to go with a darker shade, 55 Yukatan Honey, to test out the Shade Adjusting Drops. You might recall seeing this combination in action in my Summer Color Makeup Tutorial.

The Body Shop Fresh Nude Foundation – Review (Rs 1895)

The foundation comes in a glass bottle with a pump dispenser. The packaging is sturdy, convenient and travel friendly. The foundation has a slightly runny texture but not to the point of being watery. It has a mild rose scent and feels fresh & light on the skin as you blend it in. It is very easy to blend and gives a fresh, semi-matte finish to the skin. The formula isย hydrating and comfortable to wear. The coverage is light-medium but I find that it evens out my skin beautifully while still retaining a natural look. I have combination skin that gets dehydrated easily so this hydrating, lightweight foundation feels wonderful on my skin. It sits very comfortably and keeps the skin looking fresh throughout the day. You don’t have to worry about dry patches while wearing this foundation. The wear time is good but being a light, hydrating foundation, it doesn’t quite give you the kind of long wear that one would get from say, something like Estee Lauder Double Wear or Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse. It does stay on the skin for 7-8 hours but if you sweat a lot or are outdoors for a long time, it may wear off faster.

I think this foundation would work very well for a lot of skin types except maybe for very oily skinned ladies as this does not offer any oil control. The hydrating formula is not too rich so people with combination, normal and dry skin would enjoy the fluid texture and fresh finish. I personally really like this as it gives a very healthy & natural look to the skin while giving adequate coverage. I may not opt for this if I’m going to be doing any physical activity or for a day out but for day-to-day wear when you’re indoors, this is just what you need! It also has SPF 15 so it gives some UVB protection. I would advise using a broad spectrum, high SPF sunscreen underneath if you’re heading out. Overall, a really good foundation for those who like a natural (but not super sheer!) coverage foundation with a healthy finish.

The Body Shop Shade Adjusting Drops (Lightening) – Reviewย (Rs 1795)

The shade adjusting drops is a very useful product that helps you lighten a foundation shade that is too dark for you. Its a runny fluid formula that comes in a glass bottle with a dropper. The formula mixes well with liquid foundations and doesn’t seem to interfere with how the foundation feels and wears on the skin. The lightening drops claim to lighten the shade (1 drop lightens by half a shade, according to the website) and neutralize yellowness. Its basically like a white foundation that you can mix with any liquid foundation to lighten the color. I’ve used it with the Fresh Nude foundation (reviewed above) and I find that it works really well in lightening the foundation shade to match my skin tone. It doesn’t alter the undertones and keeps the ochre undertones of the foundation (in this case). If you often end up with foundations that turn out a bit dark for you, this is an excellent product to keep in your kit. I have always struggled with MAC Studio Fix foundations. NC35 is light for me, NC40 is dark and NC37 is too pink and now I think I can finally use NC40 with a drop of this brilliant product. I only wish the brand had launched the Darkening drops in India as well which could help deepen foundation shades.

The Body Shop Shade Adjusting Drops – Lightening

In the demonstration below, since I’ve used a full drop of the Shade Adjusting Drops with a small amount of foundation, it has lightened the foundation significantly. When you take a full face worth of foundation and add a drop of the Lightening drops, the foundation shade will become half a shade lighter and not as drastically light as my demo below.

Not really – then your foundation will lose coverage.

The lightening drops seem like such a useful product! I;d love to see the darkening drops launch too as I have a few foundations to darken in my kit ๐Ÿ™‚ BTW you look absolutely stunning in your new hairdo <3

Wow! Seems like a worth having product in my make-up! Though I would be more interseted in the darkening drops as my skin shows different colors during summer ๐Ÿ˜€ lol
Nice review and i love the look!

Loved the lightening drops after watching them on video, I think this is handy if we prefer to carry same foundation for base nd contour.

I’ve been wanting to get the Lightening Drops as well! I have a lot of base products that are too dark or too light and this will be very useful! As you said, I wish they had launched the darker version too!

  11. May 5, 2016 / 10:24 am

good thing that it doesn’t change the undertones as it is its difficult for me to get foundations with yellow tones in it…Seems like must have product..

  12. May 5, 2016 / 10:46 am

This is a nice thing… now we do not have to keep multiple foundations to keep up with the skin tanning and lightening ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. May 5, 2016 / 11:25 am

Wow Ankita. This seems great. Would to try it out soon ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. May 5, 2016 / 2:01 pm

Thanks for the review Ankita! Online purchase of foundation is really tricky. I think this is a good idea to mix it in my Nars foundation(shade Punjab) that I bought online and it is a little dark for me.

  18. May 6, 2016 / 11:38 am

Awesome review Ankita! I think we need the Foundation darkening drops more than the lightening one since many brands release shades that do not cater to many deeper skintones in India.

  19. May 6, 2016 / 2:14 pm

shade adjusting drops is really something unique… However I was wondering if it also sheers out the coverage provided by the foundation ?

  20. May 6, 2016 / 3:46 pm

This product was so much needed in India being always overlooked by foundation brands who launch only 4-5 shades.. Gonna grab it soon. ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. May 6, 2016 / 11:13 pm

I think darkening drops will help a lot of Indian Skin tones as most of the brands tend to launch their shades for the fairer skin tones; it can also help in contouring.
