Every season, Lakme Fashion Week brings a fresh theme inspired by the International trends to the runway. This summer, the trend statement is ‘Illuminate’ and I got the opportunity to catch some backstage action before the Nikhil Thampi show on Friday. The designer presented his collection titled “Quantum” at Stage One at LFW and he incorporated the Illuminate theme into the looks with the help of the Lakme Salon experts who created 3 stunning beauty looks. The hair, makeup and nail look for this show was no easy feat. The shimmer laden eyes, crystal lips and high volume hair were nothing less than a work of art and the avant-garde beauty looks complemented the powerful and clean silhouettes of the outfits really well.
The first look, “Shimmer”, captured one of the hottest trend this season – a shimmery gold eye, which was paired with a nude, sparkly lip. For the eyes, the makeup artists starting by blocking out the fierce wing shape with a gold cream eye shadow and then pressed gold glitter over the lids to create a powerful, dimensional look. For the lips, they used a nude matte lipstick to even out the natural lip color and then pressed an iridescent lavender pigment just at the centre to add some shine.
The second look, “Hue”, was all about color and I loved the colorful eye makeup created for this look. The artists used a matte blue eye shadow which was pressed all over the lid to create an even wash of color. They then used a purple eye pencil for the upper and lower lash lines which I think looked gorgeous! In another variant of this look, the artists paired a pink eye shadow with the purple liner.
The third look, “Crystal”, was my favorite among the three looks. The classic winged liner + red lip look was taken a step further by carefully placing red crystals all over the lips, creating a beautiful studded look. Crystals were added to the nails as well which tied in beautifully with the Illuminate theme!
I loved how the Lakme Salon artists and the designer together interpreted the Illuminate theme in such a beautiful and unconventional way. The show was quite interesting to watch because there were no overhead lights on the ramp. It was a dark room show and each model was fitted with an individual lighted frame! Here’s a sneak peek of what it looked like backstage during rehearsal time –
The runway is a great place to get inspiration and to stay up-to-date with the latest trends which is why its always fun to attend Lakme Fashion Week. But the best part for me is to see how these trends and looks can be translated to more wearable looks. The Lakme Salon experts also do the same and interpret the runway looks to ready-to-wear looks. This summer, they would also be launching some new services inspired by the Illuminate theme and I’ll be sharing more on this with you very shortly!
Hope you enjoyed my backstage coverage of the show!
Let me know your thoughts on this season’s theme and the looks above in the comments.
