Maybelline Lip Gradation : Swatches, Review

Hi everyone!

Today I’m reviewing the Maybelline Lip Gradation crayons which were introduced in India a few months ago. These are retractable lip crayons that come with a sponge tip which can be used to create an ombre lip. I’m reviewing 4 shades in this post – Coral 1, Pink 1, Orange 1 and Fuchsia 1.

Price : Rs 500

Available in 8 shades, buy online at Amazon.in.

This ultra-smooth, super saturated lipcolor comes in a slim twist-up crayon packaging. The unique aspect of this crayon is the sponge tip at the bottom end which can be used to blur and blend the color, creating a gradient on the lips. The gradient look is a Korean beauty trend wherein the color intensity is maximum at the centre of the lip and gradually fades as you move towards the edges. I havenโ€™t been able to achieve the perfect gradient using these (not as easy on pigmented lips) but I like doing a two-tone lip which you might remember from my Maybelline tutorial. You can of course use this in the regular way by applying the color all over the lips. Because the tip is slimmer than a lipstick (but larger than a lip liner), you get better control and precision if youโ€™re doing out an ombre lip.

The texture and glide of this lip crayon is so smooth, its unlike any other lipstick in my stash. You need to use a light hand when you apply these because using too much pressure can cause the tip to break. It gives a powdery matte finish which allows it to be blended very quickly. The color pay off is phenomenal as well and I often find myself just dabbing a little bit of color on the lips and using the sponge tip to create a stain all over the lips. Another fantastic aspect of the formula is that it feels very comfortable and non-drying. The shades Iโ€™ve tested are all on the brighter shade and they stay on the lips for an easy 6+ hours after which they leave a strong stain behind.

I think these are perhaps the most comfortable, long wearing and pigmented matte lip colors in this price range. The range is mostly comprised of brights but Mauve 1 is a nice shade to check out if you like earth toned lipsticks. Coral 1 is a gorgeous semi-bright shade for spring/summer as well! The other shades are a nice mix of bright pinks, reds and oranges.

Rating : 4.9/5

Hey I just got Coral1 for me this Saturday and it is the best I have tried so far. Absolutely phenomenal formula wise. But it transfers badly that’s the only issue with these. The most powdery, buttery, creamy mattes in my stash.
