Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup : Review
Packaging : The foundation comes in a heavy glass bottle with a golden screw on cap. The bottle feels heavy and luxurious though you need to be careful with it since its glass. I like the classic, hefty look and feel but I really wish it came with a pump or a dispenser of some kind! You need to pour out the foundation and more often than not, I end up pouring out too much when I’m in a hurry.
Consistency & Formula : Its a liquid foundation and its neither too runny nor too thick. I was actually expecting a more viscous consistency but its fairly light considering the high coverage it gives. Its not a nourishing foundation and does ‘set’ a bit after application so if you have dry or combination skin, a good moisturizer is an absolute must or the foundation can give a dry appearance to the skin. Ideally, the formula is best suited for normal to oily skin but with a good moisturizer underneath, it can work perfectly well for dry and combination skin as well.
Coverage and Finish : Its a medium coverage foundation and it covers up imperfections really well. It feels light on the skin and yet gives a very flawless, perfected look. It sets to a natural looking matte finish and doesn’t give a flat, cakey look to the skin. It covers up unevenness, acne marks etc. perfectly and just makes the skin look very even yet clean and natural.
Longevity : The foundation doesn’t melt down with sweat and humidity and stays well for over 10 hours on my skin. I haven’t tested it for a longer period though it is claimed to last 15 hours. It doesn’t vanish off from my T-zone with the oil and barely transfers or smudges. It doesn’t change color as it wears through the day. It doesn’t dry out the skin after a few hours like several other long wearing foundations do.
Camera-friendliness : It contains very low SPF so it doesn’t flashback in photos. It gives the skin a very perfected look in pictures and hence, its an amazing foundation for bridal makeup and in general, for special occasions! If you’re wearing this out in the day, you do need a broad spectrum sunscreen underneath as this barely offers sun protection.
Shade Selection : The shade range is quite good (the global website lists 30 shades) and there is an excellent variety for warmer skin tones. The shades run in series of C (for cool undertones), N (for neutral undertones) and W (for warm undertones). I have yellow undertones and I find 3W1 Tawny an excellent match for my skin. It doesn’t pull too pink/neutral or too orange on my skin and just works perfectly. For reference, I wear MAC Matchmaster 3.0 and in Studio Fix, I mix NC35 and NC40.
I also have the shades 2W2 Rattan which would be close to MAC NC35 I think and 3W2 Cashew, which would be close to MAC NC40.
I’m wearing Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation 3W1 Tawny, applied and blended with a BeautyBlender below –
To sum up, Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation is a long-stay, medium coverage liquid foundation that gives a flawless, perfected yet clean look to the skin. Despite being high coverage, it feels light weight, doesn’t cake up and stays put through heat and humidity. It dries down to a natural matte finish and it may dry out the skin a little if you don’t moisturize well. I use a rich moisturizer underneath and it performs brilliantly on my combination skin. The foundation photographs really well (hence a great pick for bridal makeup) and comes in a very wide range of shades. The only downside is the packaging, I really wish it came with a stopper, a pump or a dispenser of some kind.
Its definitely one of the best foundations I’ve tried so far and I’d highly recommend this to anyone looking for a medium-high coverage, long wearing foundation!
