NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation Review
The NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation is the newest foundation offering from NARS and my first foundation from the brand. I picked up the shade Barcelona which seemed a good match for my medium complexion with its golden undertones. I am close to MAC NC37-40 in Studio Fix Fluid and C4 in Face & Body. I tried 2 other shades – Stromboli and Syracuse but they were either too olive or too reddish for my skin. Barcelona is a smidgen darker and warmer than my face but it works as it matches my neck pretty well!
Packaging : The foundation comes in a frosted square bottom glass bottle fitted with a pump. I like the velvety feel of the black cap and the look of the packaging in general. It looks classy, feels heavy and sturdy and pumps are always convenient and quite frankly, essential when you are working with a runny formula. The only downside is that the rubberized material on the cap has a way of attracting dust and fingerprints.
Consistency and Finish : The foundation has a thin, runny texture. Make sure to shake the bottle well before use as it seems to activate the foundation. Without the shaking and mixing, the foundation comes out much thicker. A kabuki brush or a buffing brush works well with this consistency as does a beauty blender. The foundation is very dewy when you apply it but within half a minute, it starts to settle down to a more matte finish. If you have dry or flaky patches, this can highlight those. Smooth, moisturized skin is a MUST when using this foundation. The resulting finish after application is satin matte but it does manage to give a soft luminosity to the skin. I’ve looked closely and it doesn’t contain any shimmer or pearl particles so the “luminous” part comes off quite natural. As far as the “weightless” part goes, a little bit of product covers up very well so you don’t need to apply much for a flawless look. And with just a little product on your face, the skin doesn’t feel weighed down and caked up in product.
Coverage and Longevity : The foundation is highly pigmented with medium-high coverage in one layer and you can build it up to get full coverage. You need to be cautious while building up the foundation because its very pigmented and a little bit goes a long way! It covers up redness, blemishes and areas of pigmentation really well giving a very clean and flawless look to the face. I set the foundation lightly with a loose powder like the Clinique Blended Face Powder and it stays really well throughout the day. I do need some blotting and touch ups on the T-zone (which is quite oily) but apart from that, it stays well without breaking down with oil. I would definitely slot this as a long wearing foundation. Its not however 100% transfer resistant and can transfer to phone etc. in high heat/humidity conditions.
The GOOD : Very pigmented formula, high coverage without looking heavy, gives a natural look with a soft luminous matte finish, looks skin-like, works well for oilier skin.
The NOT-SO-GOOD : Doesn’t apply smoothly on dry patches, can look uneven on very textured skin, sets quickly, can transfer a bit, expensive.
Overall Thoughts : It has its quirks as far as application goes but despite those, this is a really good foundation! Its expensive but a little bit goes a long way and the highly pigmented formula covers imperfections beautifully while giving a soft luminous matte finish to the skin. The foundation does stay on quite well for 8-10 hours on my combination skin (though T-zone needs blotting halfway through the day) and its something I wouldn’t hesitate to wear in the summer. I love the glass packaging which comes fitted with a pump – really essential for very runny foundations like this one. The foundation is fragrance-free and comes in a wide range of 20 shades. I wouldn’t recommend this for dry skinned ladies as it can be tricky on dry skin but normal to oily skin types looking for a natural looking, high coverage, long lasting foundation can check this out!
