Maybelline The Colossal Liner Review
The liner comes in a slim, pen form with a firm yet flexible felt tip. I find this tip much easier to work with compared to the paint brush like tip of the HyperSharp liner that Maybelline came out with a couple of years back. The tip is fine enough to do precise and thin lines but doesn’t pose a problem if you want to do a thicker line. The color pay off is really good – it gives a rich, opaque black color (though you might need 2 swipes) and gives you the clean, precise look of a liquid liner.
The formula dries quickly and has a soft satin finish – neither matte nor glossy. The formula is not waterproof and can break down to some extent if you have very oily or sweaty lids. I find that when I have some eye shadow on the lids (or just compact powder to mattify the lids), this wears quite well but without anything on the lids, it tends to transfer a little to the socket line. I find this problem with majority of liners, even gel liners, so I don’t hold this against this liner. But you definitely need to prep your lids if you are going to be wearing this in the summer and you have oily lids like mine. It comes off with a makeup remover, doesn’t wash off completely with water so its best placed in the water resistant category. On the upside, it doesn’t flake off or crumble during the day, even if you rub your eyes a bit and doesn’t bleed in the inner corner if your eyes get a bit teary.
Overall, I quite like it and the felt tip makes it very convenient and hassle-free to use. I’ve never been a huge fan of brush type liquid liners (prefer the easier to use pencil or gel liners) and felt liners are great to achieve the precise, clean look of a liquid liner with more control and ease. I’ve tried the felt tip liners from Colorbar and two different ones from L’Oreal (reviews HERE and HERE) and to be honest – they all worked well for me. But Maybelline is more reasonably priced compared to similar products from Lakme, Revlon, Colorbar and L’Oreal too so if I had to repurchase, I’d probably go with this. I also think this color is richer and darker than the other ones I’ve tried. So if you’re on the hunt for a new liquid liner – do give this a try!
I’ve used this quite a bit in my recent tutorials, you can see it in action in my Orange Shimmer Video Tutorial (around 4:50 mark).
