Today I am reviewing the Essence Metal Glam Eye shadow in a lovely chocolate shade – Choco Chic.
You might remember this one from my Shimmery Chocolate Eye Makeup tutorial.

Essence Metal Glam Eye shadow Choco-Chic
On first glance, this eye shadow looks like a metallic bronzed chocolate color but that sparkle is just an overspray. Underneath the shimmer flecks is a very creamy chocolate brown eye shadow with a satin finish and barely any shimmer. The texture is slightly tricky – it feels smooth and almost creamy to touch once you’ve gone through the overspray but you need a really dense brush or your fingertips to get good color pay off. You also need to apply a little pressure to really get the color onto the brush or the finger. Without that, its difficult to get intense color from the eye shadow and it looks really sheer. The application can really make a big difference here (as you’ll see in the swatches below).
Because of the slightly tricky application, I think this works best in conjunction with a dark base like a black/brown liner smudged underneath. The base gives it intensity and also helps prolong the wear time. I’m personally slightly disappointed with this because it looks a little deceiving at first glance with its shimmery metallic overspray. The color is still quite beautiful – classic rich brown that would work on everyone and is fantastic for a brown smoky eye – a look that you can never go wrong with! You can see how I’ve used this eye shadow in my tutorial HERE.
The price point is quite good – very affordable and with the right application, you can get a beautiful rich and intense color that stays well. If you’re looking for a cheaper dupe of the L’Oreal Paris Infallible Eye shadow in Endless Chocolate – this color comes really close! The formula though needs a bit of work!
Rating : 3.5/5
Swatched in 2 different ways : Left – just swiping the color lightly, Right – Using fingertips and heavy pressure to get intense color. The application is really the key with this product!
I’ve used this eye shadow in the look below. Used with a brown eyeshadow crayon (Milani Espresso line) underneath as a base to intensify the Essence eye shadow.
