My review of the product

As an ardent fan of the Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm, I had high hopes from this. This is a bi-phase makeup remover which has a watery layer and an oil layer. You need to shake it well before use to mix the 2 layers well and then use a cotton pad saturated with the liquid to remove makeup. The thing I like about it – fully removes waterproof eye makeup (though you may need multiple swipes if your mascara is stubborn), doesn’t sting the eyes and is completely unscented.

What I do not like –  its not 100% effective against strongly staining lip products and it also leaves a layer of oily residue on my face. There is nothing actually wrong with the product – the residue washes off with a face wash but I personally just don’t like the feel of it on my skin. I prefer cleansing oils or balms that emulsify with water completely and rinse off. This does the job though and the small travel sized bottle has certainly come in handy during my US trip but I just don’t like the oily feel (I was using this on the entire face) and I can’t wait to go back to my cleansing oils when I’m back home!

The one thing that is worth a mention is the packaging – it may look like a simple bottle with a screw on cap but the cap needs some downward pressure to twist it open which prevents spillage during travel. Without that extra bit of pressure, the cap can rotate all it wants without actually getting unscrewed! If you have very sensitive eyes and prefer waterproof makeup that can be difficult to remove – you might like using this because it is effective. But if you’re a cleansing oil/balm type of girl like me, skip this!

Sounds good enough but I still prefer sticking to my budget friendly Maybelline makeup remover as I think the results are almost the same….

I had heard alot clinique cleanser . This is the first time I get to hear about their makeup remover.

Leaving an oily layer post usage is a big no no for me too. Not my cup of tea 🙂

I am much of a cleansing oil/balm kind of person, I love using cream cleansers too, I have tried few biphasic makeup removers in the past and most of them were not very effective against stubborn waterproof makeups.

I have a sample size of this that I received in my envy box and I just can’t seem to open it. So tempted to give it a try after reading ur review especially since all the removers that I’ve tried till date have stung my eyes

Comepletely agree with the review..I have this product..and I HATE the oily feel it leaves after cleansing…I have barely used it twice or thrice in the last 3 months and it has been sitting in my closet ever since..not worth the money.

I have been using it for quite some time, and I am totally in love as I have sensitive eyes, but I use it only for eyes and lips so it doesn’t bother me on the part of oily residue on the face, but yes using it on entire face can be irritating. 🙂 xx

    Hi Ankita,

I have tried the Simple Face Wipes, which are pretty good & works well on my skin so far. I have a sensitive skin & this alcohol free and fragrant free wipes does a good job in removing makeups without leaving any stress to the skin.
