My take on the Product

The Avene Cleanance Mask came into my life sometime last year when I received a sample of this in a My Envy Box. Having breakout prone skin means you are always ready to test out anti acne products because most of the time, you are battling a zit or another! When I tested out the sample, I loved it instantly because it made my skin so much cleaner and brighter. I picked up the full sized product this summer and it has come in pretty handy especially last week when my skin was experiencing some serious breakouts.

What it is : An exfoliating mask that deep cleanses the skin and helps in reducing breakouts. The clay based mask is white in color and has exfoliating granules that are not too harsh.  The texture can be thinned out so it sits in a very thin layer on the skin. Its not a very wet formula so dries quickly and the granules shed if you rub your skin accidentally. Its easy to wash off and I recommend using a light, gentle massage while washing it off to get the benefit of the exfoliating particles. Recommended for oily and acne prone skin.

How to use it : I have applied it on dry skin as well as damp skin and I feel it is much more effective when applied on moist skin. Wet your skin with a little water and then apply a thin layer of this mask concentrating on T-zone or areas of breakouts. Because the texture is a little dry, it spreads much better on wet skin. You can keep the mask on for about 10 minutes (even 5 works when pressed for time) and then wash off. It tingles on areas of breakouts so don’t worry about that. I had a pretty bad (really bad) breakout about a week back and I pretty much had this on my face (on the affected areas – cheek and jawline) for the entire day on the weekend and it really helped in subduing the angry pimples. A small amount goes a long way so the tube actually lasts quite long.

What it does : Cleanses the skin, improves texture and reduces breakouts -> pores look smaller (cleaner), skin feels smoother and softer, looks clean, fresh and radiant, breakouts look less inflamed (read angry) and reduced in size. Using this before night cream/serum etc. leads to much better absorption of the products and hence skin looks much better and healthier in the morning! It doesn’t get tight on the skin as it dries, doesn’t dry out the skin and is really effective against breakouts (though you need to keep it on for longer if you have more stubborn or larger breakouts).

I LOVE this product! The only downside I can think of is that the exfoliating granules may be an irritant for people with super sensitive skin. I have not had any issues (in fact I like the mild physical exfoliation) and this mask has become an essential in my skin care routine. Even when I don’t have angry looking breakouts, I like to use this at least once a week to get rid of the small bumps I tend to get along my jawline. It also keeps the pores cleansed and you get lesser blackheads and whiteheads when your pores are clean.

This is the best cleansing mask I’ve used so far! Highly recommended!

  1. I have acne prone skin and no matter how mild a scrub I use, it irritates my skin. I am really looking for a scrub that would be soft on my skin and not aggravate my existing acne.

  2. i have never used any avene products although i have heard that they make great products for acne prone skin. For the last 10 months i have been sticking to my dermatologist prescribed skincare regime…and i have to say your description of this masque seems a lot like the DUCRAY KERACNYL TRIPLE ACTION MASQUE. It was prescribed to me by my dermatologist. I had pretty much the same experience as you did with the avene one…right down to the grittiness of the scrub particles. My acne and inflammation have gone down drastically and this masque helps maintain my skin and with the oil cntrol. And it retails for about rs. 500. You could give it a try if this kind or therapy works so well for you. And its cheaper too. could be a drugstore dupe for the avene mask, who knows 🙂
