My Day out exploring Tokyo!

Hey everyone!

I was meaning to take a break for a day from the blog and I decided to do something I had never done before – a full day out walking around Tokyo! Tokyo is a beautiful city and very convenient for people on foot and bikes. There are footpaths, pedestrian bridges, a gazillion zebra crossings (on even the tiniest of streets) and people in vehicles are generally very considerate. Its also very very clean and its rare to come across any overflowing trash cans or open drains. My aim was to walk for at least 10 hours (to get some good cardio) and also to explore more of Tokyo while doing so.

I started from home before 8.30 in the morning when my husband was leaving for work and started my journey, heading south towards central Tokyo. Even though the weather has been a bit dull lately, yesterday turned out to be a beautiful brilliant sunny day! My first 2 hours of walking weren’t so much fun because I was a bit sleepy and was walking mainly through regular streets I’ve seen before. But after that the cityscape changed and I came across some beautiful buildings and gardens near the Ueno area. There is nothing I love more than gardens and parks and I took a break to have some snacks!

By mid day I had covered 10 km, reaching the beautiful Imperial Gardens area of central Tokyo. After another break resting in a beautiful garden, I continued my journey to some other spots like Hibiya Park, Tokyo Tower, Zojoji Temple and Shiba Park, finally reaching Shinagawa in the evening. My legs were really sore by this point and boy was I tired! But my husband and I had planned to meet up once he got off work, have dinner and head home together so that kept me going!

In the 10 hours that I walked, I covered about 18-20 km which I’m really pleased with. Most of all, I had so much fun exploring this beautiful city! I took frequent breaks to refresh myself and with a convenience store in almost every street (and the ample vending machines), I didn’t have to worry about food or water. I discovered plenty of new spots I hadn’t seen before and got to know the city a little better. I’m definitely doing this again! I hope you enjoy these pictures I took on my day out! Have a great weekend!
