Gorgeous Bright Lipsticks for Summer

Tip 1 : How to make any Lipstick Matte

Big fan of matte lipsticks? You can convert any lipstick to a matte finish by lightly blotting the lips with a tissue to take away the shine. You could also dab a little loose powder on the lips through the tissue to further mattify the lip color! This works best with pigmented lipstick as blotting down sheer lipstick takes most of the color away. You can always blot and reapply and then blot again to intensify the color!

Tip 2 : How to Tone down a Bold Lip color

A nude lipstick or a concealer is a great way to tone down or dilute a bold color. After applying the lipstick, just dab a little concealer/foundation or lighter lipstick on the lips and rub your lips together to mix the shades (you could also use your fingers). The addition of a paler color will instantly tone down the bright color!

Tip 3 : How to make Lipstick last longer

Are you one of those women whose lipstick doesn’t last? Here’s a simple step – layer the color! There are several ways to do this. You could use a matching lip liner under your lipstick not just to line your pencil but use it all over the lips as a base for your lipstick. This will make the color last much longer! You could also use the blot and reapply technique – apply one swipe of lipstick, blot it down to a stain by dabbing the lipstick with a tissue and then reapply the color. Do this 2-3 times and you lipstick will last for hours and hours!

Tip 4 : How to Multi-task using your Lipstick

Did you know that lipsticks can double up as cream blush/cheek stain? Just dab a little bit of the color from the bullet onto your finger tip and blend it on your cheeks for an instant flush! Whenever you are in doubt about what blush to wear with a certain lipstick, just use the lipstick as a cream blush and your cheeks will now coordinate with your lipstick! This tip is also great for when you are traveling and don’t want to carry too many makeup products.

Tip 5 : How to make your lips look bigger or smaller

If you have big lips that you want to play down, stick to slightly darker colors and matte finishes. If you have smaller lips that you want to emphasize, use lighter colors and glossier finishes. You can also use a lip liner to alter your lip line slightly. To make lips look smaller, line your lips slightly inside your natural line and vice-versa for smaller lips! Just make sure to not go too far from your natural lip line to avoid looking clownish!

Well… I have never tried lipstick as a blush… do you it could lead to any kind of rashes or allergies if I have sensitive skin? Well never mind, I am going to try the blod and reapply technique to see if the lipstick lasts longer… half the time I eat it away… Also could you please suggest some natural remedies or otherwise to lighten the lips… I have darker lips from birth but most recently they have started getting darker… could be because of lipstick? Please let me know any tips you have up your sleeves!!

    • September 16, 2014 / 8:54 pm

If you have very sensitive skin then perhaps you should avoid. Most makeup artists however like Lisa Eldridge, Tom Pecheaux do recommend these tricks. I've heard rose petal in fresh milk cream help lighten the lips but I'm not sure if it works.

  26. September 16, 2014 / 11:33 am

I have a fuller pout. So when I feel like taming it down, I apply a thin line of concealer around the desirable edges.

    September 16, 2014 / 12:03 pm

Nice tips. 🙂 I haven’t used lipstick as cheek stain but I used one as eye shadow. Actually I was at my first stage of lipstick love and was trying out different shades and textures. I bought this sheer brownish pink shade with little bit of shimmer. Since I have pouty lips, shimmer doesn’t work for me. My lips look slightly weird. So anyway I used that lipstick as eye shadow and it looked really pretty. Only problem was that it creased horribly after couple of hours.

    • September 16, 2014 / 8:58 pm

Hey Madhur, please be careful about what you use in the eye area. Using lip product on the cheeks is okay but on the eyes it can cause a reaction as eyes are very sensitive!
