My take on the Product

Much has been said about highlighting concealers and in recent years, most high end brands have added this kind of product to their lineup. The credit of course goes to the YSL Touche Eclat for creating such a buzz around highlighting concealers! What are highlighting concealers? As the name suggests, a highlighting concealer combines the coverage of a sheer concealer with the brightening properties of a highlighter. So you don’t typically get a lot of coverage with these kind of products but the pearl particles in the formula reflect light and brighten up the skin. I wasn’t ready to shell out big bucks for the YSL one but to test the waters, I decided to try out the more budget friendly Maybelline Dream Touch Lumi Concealer.

The concealer comes in a pen brush type of packaging that I’m not a big fan of. I hate the idea of the brush accumulating grime (read bacteria) over time and I anyway need another brush for blending the product so the brush is just redundant for me. Secondly, the product doesnt always come out instantly when you twist the bottom, you’ve to wait a bit and when you’re in a hurry, you mostly end up twisting too much in the haste to get some product out! I really wish this came in a simple tube packaging with a wand. Packaging issues aside, I LOVE this concealer!

The texture is neither too thick, nor too runny, it blends like a dream giving about medium coverage and a soft brightening effect. The formula has very fine pearl particles that are non-gritty and barely visible on the skin. But they do add a dewy reflective sheen to the skin which I love! On most days recently, I have been skipping foundation and using this under the eyes, around the nose and mouth and on the tops of the cheekbones. It gives a natural brightening effect to the skin while giving enough coverage to even things out. I love that it doesn’t get cakey or get in the lines throughout the day, the wear time is great! Unfortunately the formula is a bit rich for my oily skin. So while this works great under the eyes for me, it makes my skin a little oily if I use it on other parts of the face.

I wasn’t expecting much from the product but I loved it! I wish this was available in more shades. I use the darkest shade Honey from the 3 available shadesΒ in India and it is just right for my medium complexion. I don’t think deeper complexions will find the right shade match in this range. It would be great if international brands start launching India specific shades when it comes to base products.

What I love about it – Great texture, easy to blend, brightens and conceals, very natural dewy finish, doesn’t get in lines/doesn’t get cakey.

What I don’t like about it – The packaging, the limited shade range and the fact that is makes my face (not the under eyes) a little oily over time.

Rating : 4/5

  1. This sounds like a great product! I use the Stila pen concealer which is AMAZING! but because its a little difficult to stock up I need a dupe! Will try this out

  2. I’ve seen alot of reviews on this product but only your review answered my doubts. I think I’m a shade darker than you, will this concealer still work for me? Also, will it work on top of a cream concealer?

  3. i dont use a concealer bcoz seriously i dnt get the diffrnce between a foundation and a concealer instead of it nwadays a use a cc creme by lakme….

  4. I went to check this out but I found it too shiny . So i skipped it. Might work well as a highlighter though πŸ˜€
I love loreal super blendable concealer πŸ˜€

  5. I might try this…have a problem with dark circles and use the ‘Skinlights’ cream regularly!! But still a little shadow shows up in the pics…

    1. Wouldn't recommend it to be used all over the face if you have oily skin. The texture is not very matte and it has mild shimmer which may make the skin look greasy. Best for under eye area.

      1. thanks for the reply ankita…learned a lot from your blog…also learned not all iit grads are nerds hehe…so what would you recommend to hide pigmentation around lips…i dont use anything for the face skin other than compact…so will bb creams before compact cover the pigmentation? or can i additionally use concealers around the mouth if not the whole face… thanks

        1. Hey Aamna, both options would work – bb cream will give you sheer coverage all over the face which will even out your skin tone. Or you could use a concealer only around the areas you want to cover. Make sure the concealer is good match for you in case 2.

  6. I want to try this but the pen mechanism is keeping me away,I hAve colorbar radiant glow n the pen is irritating have to press it 20 times n den wait .it puts me off
