Kajals are perhaps the single most popular selling makeup product in India and the brands know it! There have been loads of kajal launches in the recent months and one of them is by L’Oreal – the Kajal Magique. Here are my thoughts on this and how it compares to the other affordable kajals in the market –
Price : Rs 245
My take on the Product
The reigning affordable kajals in the market are Maybelline Colossal and Lakme Eyeconic. It seems like L’Oreal wanted to position one of its own in the same price bracket with Kajal Magique. Having used both Maybelline Colossala and Lakme Eyeconic, I can say the Kajal Magique does not compare to either – in terms of texture, pigmentation or longevity!
I like the black and hot pink twist up packaging but the fondness ends there. It doesn’t feel smooth, the pigmentation is weak and you need several swipes to get a decently black color. Even with a lot of tugging and layering, it doesn’t give a very rich black color that we have come to love in other brands. L’Oreal claims that it can be used on the lower lash line as well as the upper lash line. The one claim it does to seem to fulfill is that it is smudge-proof. On the upper lash line as liner, it doesn’t budge or transfer to the socket line. I would have liked wearing this as liner if it was just a little smoother and blacker. On the waterline though, it looks sheer and begins fading after a mere 3 hours of wear. The saving grace is that it doesn’t bleed or give you panda eyes. Overall, this was a complete dud for me. I like my kajals/liners to be smooth and rich black. I’ll be sticking to my Lakme Eyeconic!

L’Oreal Kajal Magique – used as eye liner and kohl below (several swipes) –
The L’Oreal Paris Kajal Magique was a big disappointment for me. The texture was dry/stiff, the pigmentation was weak and I had to layer it several times to get a decent black color. The only saving grace is that it doesn’t smudge or give you panda eyes. I personally prefer softer, richer kajals and this one is just not worth buying when there are some great kajals like Lakme Eyeconic and Maybelline Colossal in the market already.
