My take on the product
The Shiseido Sheer and Perfect Foundation comes in a sleek, plastic bottle which doesn’t spell luxury but is practical, sturdy and easy to carry around. The foundation has a runny, watery texture but once applied on the skin, it dries down quickly to a satin finish on blending. It feels very light weight and looks natural on the skin, like you’re wearing no makeup. As the name suggests, its sheer – you get sheer coverage if you use fingers but you can use a brush or layer it to build up the coverage. At best it goes medium coverage and doesn’t look cakey on layering. Its really easy to blend and is quite forgiving on dry patches as well compared to most other foundations.
I love how it makes my skin look fresh, glowy and yet works great on oily skin. Once set well with a powder after application, it stays fresh for a good 5+ hours without any need for touch ups. Overall, I find this quite long wearing on my skin – apart from the occasional blotting on the T-zone, it doesn’t need much maintenance and doesn’t break down with the oils of my skin.
The formula contains reflective powders that help in cancelling out uneven skin tone giving the look of more perfect skin. I love the concept of a sheer light weight texture combined with optical powders instead of a heavy masking foundation. I have some pigmentation and redness on my skin which is evened out fairly well with this foundation. I only need a concealer for under eyes and the occasional blemish when I use this foundation. I’ve also noticed that my pores looks less prominent which I use this foundation.
Overall, I think it is a brilliant foundation that I can see myself wearing throughout the year. The light weight texture + skin perfecting optical powders is a combination that makes it very versatile – you can wear it in the day time as well as the evening. It photographs well with and without flash (despite being SPF 15). I also see it working for all skin types as well. The only people I wouldn’t recommend this to are those with a lot of pigmentation/spots as this won’t give adequate coverage.
Availability : It is available in 8 shades in India. I wear O60 which is a touch darker and more yellow than my complexion but it adapts well. Prefix O stands for Ochre tones and I for Ivory in Shiseido foundations. Available in 18 shades worldwide.
Drugstore dupes : In a way in reminds me the Bourjois Happy Light foundation which has the same concept of light weight texture combined with optical reflective powder for perfecting the skin. But between these 2, I prefer Shiseido – I like its runny texture and it looks nicer on my skin + has better wear time on my combination/oily skin.
