The Oscars are the most glamorous night of the year in Hollywood with all eyes on the red carpet so see who wore what. Here are some of my favorite dresses from Oscars 2014 (with a few misses in the end!).
Lupita Nyong’o in Prada
She has been the queen of the red carpet this award season with her bold color choices! She looked lovely in this dreamy pale blue gown that not only looked stunning against her skin tone but stood out on the red carpet as well. She carried the plunging neck line well and I absolutely love the fall of the skirt! Love the understated and simple accessories. Needless to say, she made it to every best dressed list!
Sandra Bullock in Alexander McQueen
Love the color, draping and the fit of this dress. I think it looked very flattering on her. The dress was paired with minimal accessories, softly smoked eyes/nude lips and side swept hair – she looked very sophisticated and chic!
Jennifer Lawrence in Dior
I’m not the biggest fan of the peplum at the waist (on this dress) but the color was so refreshing! She’s worked the princess-y look in the past and I like the new, grown up modern look on her. She looked great!
Camila Alves in Gabriela Cadena
I absolutely loved this look – its so simple, elegant but not dated. Love the flattering fit, the clean lines and the blush color of this dress. The one sided cape added a touch of edginess and totally elevated a simple dress. Accessorized just right and paired with understated chic makeup – this look was absolute perfection to me. This was so different from the regular red carpet looks, it was one of my absolute favorites of the evening!
Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace
I’m not sure how this dress would have looked on someone else but it looked stunning on her. Its glamorous and sexy with a futuristic edge to it. Love the color on her, the beading details and shoulder pads that almost suggest a cape at the back. Love the draping at the back – it somehow makes the dress less sharp and a tad softer. Side swept waves and smokey eyes finished the look.
Angeline Jolia in Elie Saab
Angelina Jolie is a class apart when it comes to red carpet fashion but I was a little disappointed with her look this time. The gown was beautiful and she looked great but it looked too tame for someone like her. I don’t think she could look bad in anything but expectations are high from someone who has given such iconic looks in the past!
Emma Watson in Vera Wang
I love the gunmetal color of the fabric and the sleek silhouette but I don’t like the T-shirt shape of the top at all! The makeup was stunning, the red lip was effortlessly glamorous. The hair bordered on slightly messy but still I think looked gorgeous!
Anne Hathaway in Gucci
I’m not loving the gown by itself but it does look great on her! The simple clean silhouette it very flattering and the understated accessories + makeup complement the outfit perfectly.
Cate Blanchett in Armani Prive
I feel princess-y gowns in fabrics like these have been done to death on the red carpet. But I still like how the color melts so beautifully into her complexion – almost as if the dress was seamlessly one with her skin. Don’t like the earrings though, wish she had gone for something simpler instead.
Some of the other outfits that looked nice -
Julia Roberts in Givenchy
There is so much I don’t like about this dress – the sheer panel at the neckline looks like an afterthought, the peplum looks frumpy and it doesn’t fit her well at all. Not even Julia’s personality could salvage this mess.
Charlize Theron in Dior
Waist down this dress is gorgeous but I hate the top. The neckline and the invisible strap thingy totally kill this dress for me.
Penelope Cruz in Giambattista Valli
Many people loved this but this look just didn’t grow on me. It was too cotton candy-ish and all that draped chiffon is not very flattering on her. She is such a beautiful woman, she could certainly do better! I wish she had gone for something more structured and fitted than this sugary dress. I also can’t help but notice the darker lip liner with the nude lipstick. I wish her makeup artist had done the lips better.
