Today I’m reviewing 2 great neutral lip pencils from NYX – Peekaboo Neutral and Natural.
Price : $3.50 (Rs 217)
My take on the product
This is my first experience with lip pencils from NYX and I’d say I like them but don’t love them. The texture is fairly smooth (though not as soft and creamy as the Lakme 9-to-5 lip liner or the Bourjois lip pencils), is well pigmented and doesn’t tug at the lips. However it did make my lips a bit dry even with a touch of clear gloss on top. I generally like to use a lip pencil all over the lip and not just to line the lip – they wear about 3-4 hours on my lips worn alone and do extend the wear time of the lipsticks by a few hours. Overall, the formula is okay but I wish it was creamier and more forgiving on the lips. I would not recommend wearing these alone – they can emphasize dryness and lines on the lips. That being said, I think these are fairly good for the price!
The 2 shades I have under review today make fantastic neutrals and I love these for no-makeup looks! They are great shades to pair with heavier eye makeup as well.
NYX Slim Lip pencil – Peekaboo Neutral
Peekaboo Neutral is brownish pink that makes an excellent nude peachy pink for my medium complexion. It just adds a soft touch of color to the lips and would work really well with fair to medium skin tones. If you have pigmented lips like mine and find sheer peach/pink glosses don’t show up well, this is a great color to wear as a base underneath sheerer lip colors.
NYX Slim lip pencil – Natural
Natural is more ‘nude’ on me as compared to Peekaboo Neutral but I quite like it topped with clear gloss – its the perfect nude lip color for my complexion. Its got a bit of peachy tone which is why it doesn’t look too pale. I generally shy away from nudes and go for neutrals a little darker than my skin tone but I really like this! I think its quite true to its name – Natural!
The NYX Slim Lip Pencils are not the creamiest or most forgiving lip pencils I’ve used but they are good for the price and do the job. The texture is fairly smooth, pigmentation is good though they can feel a tad drying on their own or paired with a matte lipstick. Having said that, I would still recommend these especially if you’re looking to experiment with colors without burning a hole in your pocket! Just make sure to wear lip balm/gloss to keep the lips from getting dry.
If you’re looking for neutrals, Peekaboo Neutral (dusty peachy pink) and Natural (nude peachy brown) are excellent colors for medium complexions that’ll complement neutral lipsticks/glosses quite well!
