How to wear White Liner : Tips & Tricks

Hey everyone!

Since Lakme has introduced the Eyeconic White Kajal (review HERE) into the Indian market making white liner accessible to everyone, I thought this post would be quite useful. White isn’t the most ‘natural’ color on the Indian skin but with these few tips, you can make it look really good!

If you’re wondering why White? White kajal brightens up the eyes, makes them look bigger, wider and more awake! So if you have small eyes, these tips can make your eyes bigger!

Step 1 : Apply the white liner in 3 areas – inner corner and tear duct area, lower waterline (where you normally wear kajal) and the browbone. For the inner corner area, smudge the liner a little using a brush or with a few dabs of your finger (be gentle!). For the browbone, smudge it completely till its completely sheered out. We only want a soft highlight in this area, no harsh lines.

Step 2 : Use a matte brown eye shadow along the lower lash line – just along the outer 2/3rd. Placing the dark shade right next to the white on the waterline gives it a little contrast. It also defines the shape of your eye.

Step 3 : Line your upper lash line with black liner. You could also use brown but I find black gives a more crisp look. This will also offset the brightness of the white and add definition to the shape of your eye.

If you have a white liner, do try it out this way and let me know how it works for you! [/note]

  2. Hey Ankita amazing tips u have given.
And can you please help me out with a good primer for extremely oily skin that is easily available, all my foundations oxidize and start getting oily and shiny within barely 2-3 hours inspite of powdering and I also have lot of large pores around nose, and Mumbai’s humid weather just make it worse. A reply would be appreciated :))

  3. When I bought my first white liner I had no idea how to use it. I just read that it would make the eyes look bigger and bought it instantly.
But now that I have learned how to use it properly, I love using a white liner regularly..
It really opens up the eyes and makes them look bigger and fresher..

    1. I’m wearing Canmake Cream cheek blush CL04 (bright pink shade from a Japanese brand) with lots of ELF Princess Bronzer over it.

    1. For darker complexions, a nude or beige liner would be better. I've been hearing good things about the new Maybelline Color Show one in Shiny Beige. You could also check out the Revlon Photoready kajal in Emerald Empire – it has green on one side and nude on the other!

  4. Dear Ankita..this is a very wearable look. I have always been apprehensive in using light color pencil on waterlines. I have a NYX wonder pencil..it indeed does wonders but I hardly use it.
Also, I was wondering if you can review the MAC Strobe Cream. Since it is very expensive, is there an alternative?

  7. OOOOwwww what pretty eyes!!!Thank u Ankita.I recently bought this product and wondering how to apply it…U solved my prob.

  8. Ankita, i tried this but could not get this look, infact the liner looks as if i have applied white paint on my waterline, do i need to smudge on waterline too?, it even gets dry up quickly. Any Video tut???

    1. Hi Megha, white doesn't look natural on everyone. Maybe you could try mixing it with brown or black kohl to create a greyish shade. Or try a flesh toned shade instead as that looks more natural on the Indian skin.

  9. Thnku Ankita…it definitely makes my eyes look bigger n brighter…
my profession involves day n night calls…n after a heavy casualty …those dull n tired eyes look really bad..
i tried this tip…n its real does d magic ..i look fresh
