Kohl-lined eyes are the go-t0 look for most Indian girls! We love our kohl or kajal as we call it, and for good reason. It adds a beautiful sultriness to the eyes especially when paired with thick, luscious lashes. A slightly smokey kohl-lined eye makeup is the go-to look for every Bollywood diva and you can create this by following these steps ~
Step 1 ~ Start by applying a matte peach/flesh toned eye shadow all over the lid.
Step 2 ~ Use a matte brown eye shadow and apply it along the crease of the eye.
Step 3 ~ Tightline the eyes with a black kohl pencil. Tightlining simply means applying kohl to the upper as well as the lower water lines – this instantly adds fullness to the lashes. Line your eyes right upto the inner corner rimming the eyes completely.
Step 4 ~ Line upper lash line with black kohl and soften it very slightly with black eye shadow. You do this by loading black eye shadow on an angled brush and applying it over the black kohl line. This not only softens the liner but also prevents the kohl from transferring to the socket line. All eye shadows I used are from the Coastal Scents 88 eye shadow palette (pictured below).
Step 5 ~ Smudge the kohl onto the lower lash line. The idea behind this to the cover up any gaps between the lashes. If you notice my eye makeup, you see no skin peeking anywhere along the lash lines. You achieve this perfectly smoked lash line by smudging kohl and using some matte black or brown eye shadow on a pencil brush. (I used a Colorbar Smudging Brush)
Step 6 ~ The last step is the lashes and a very important step in my opinion! Thick, full lashes add that final touch to any look. Curl your lashes to open up and lift the eyes and then apply a volumizing mascara to the top and bottom lashes. Keep a clean mascara brush handy to brush out excess and separate the lashes after mascara application. Use 2-3 coats of mascara to get the maximum volume. I used the Maybelline Falsies Mascara for this look. I also used Ardell Lashes (Luckies) after applying mascara.
Lastly, don’t forget to fill in your brows and conceal the under eye area properly. If you don’t use concealer, kohl just make dark circles look worse!
