Today I’m reviewing the Maybelline Colossal Kajal. Maybelline recently relaunched their best-selling the Colossal Kajal with a new 12 hour formula. The original colossal kajal claimed 6 hour wear so this is a big improvement over the previous formula! Does it really last 12 hours? Read on to find out..
Price : Rs 175
What the brand says about the formula :
My take on the Product
I’m not a colossal loyalist because the original 6 hour formula used to sting my eyes a bit. I wore it a couple of times but when the mild itching continued, I never used it again except for my upper lash line sometimes. I was really happy when I tried out the new 12 hour formula because it didn’t irritate my waterline at all! It comes in the same yellow packaging which I really like because I have a huge eye pencil collection and this one stands out and is super easy to locate.
Compared to the original formula, the new formula is creamier, softer and gives a smoother glide on the eyes. Its quite dark black and gives good color in a single stroke. A second swipe is required to get the darkest color. Though it looks a little *less* black compared to the original formula (See swatches further in the post). It doesn’t tug on the eyes like the older formula and like I mentioned, no stinging or any irritation. As far as the claims go, it doesn’t live up to every one of them. It is long wearing for sure, I see first signs of fading from the outer corners of my waterline after about 5 hours of wear but the remaining part stays intact for another 2-3 hours. After 8 hours though it is significantly faded though it doesn’t vanish completely. On the upper lash line, it tends to transfer to the socket line because I have slightly oily lids. So its not entirely smudge-proof. But it doesn’t bleed into the under eyes and doesn’t give raccoon eyes.
Overall, its a great product and very well priced -it gives stiff competition to my budget favorite – Lakme Eyeconic Kajal. If you’re looking for a good long stay kohl that doesn’t burn a hole in the pocket, do give this a try!
Comparison between different kohls ~
All of these are quite dark black. Lakme Absolute ultimate and MNY Colossal (old) are the darkest while the others are marginally less intense. But since the old MNY formula stung my eyes, I could rarely wear it!
Worn on the upper lash line and waterline ~
The GOOD about Maybelline the Colossal Kajal (12 Hour formula) :
- Attractive packaging
- Smooth, creamy texture
- Glides without tugging
- Doesn’t irritate the eyes
- Long wearing
- Minimal smudging
- Doesn’t give raccoon eyes
- Very affordable!
The NOT-SO-GOOD about Maybelline the Colossal Kajal (12 Hour formula) :
- Not completely smudge-proof
- Doesn’t stay for 12 hours!
The new Maybelline the Colossal Kajal 12 Hour formula is an excellent kajal for those looking for a good budget kohl. Its sufficiently dark black, creamy and stays on well. It may not live up to its tall claims but its still an excellent product! The biggest improvement for me over the 6 hour original formula is that the new formula does not irritate my eyes! Recommended!
