I love black liner and ever since I discovered felt tip liners, I’ve rarely gone back to gel liners and liquid liners. Today I’m reviewing Estee Lauder Pure Color Quick Thick liner which was launched along with the Violet Underground collection few months ago.
Price : Rs 1870 ($21.50 in the US)
(Limited Edition -Violet Underground Collection)
What Estee Lauder says about the Product :
Defines and lines eyes in a dramatic black ink. Blackened pigments glide on effortlessly with the easy-to-use marker-like tip. The precise application has the ability to transform a look from glamorous-chic with a thin line to punk-rock with a bold line in one dramatic stroke.
My take on the Product
The liner comes in a short, chubby marker style packaging in the signature deep blue and gold colors of Estee Lauder products. What distinguishes this from the other felt tip liners in the market is that it is shorter and has a thicker tip. The shorter length makes for more precise application as its much easier to handle. On the downside, the packaging tends to get scratched up and starts looking old within a few months (as you can see in the images).
The formula is excellent – its a deep dark black color, gives good color pay off in a single swipe and dries down quickly. It also contains very fine shimmer that adds a slightly glistening effect. Its a little difficult to see that in photographs but in person, you can see it under direct light. It wears well with no flaking till the end of the day. Unfortunately, its not waterproof like most felt tip liners so that’s a drawback if you prefer waterproof liners like me. As the tip is quite ‘chubby’, you cannot do very thin lines with this. But if you like your liner flicked and of medium (or heavy) thickness, this is the best product for that! I like my liner slightly on the thicker side with a small kitten flick and this gives me that look with very little effort.
Even though I really like this product and have been using it for months now (and it hasn’t dried at all), I won’t personally splurge so much on liner (I received a sample of this product). It does make drawing cat eyes really easy but I find I can do that with other liners too though with a little more effort. If you’re an Estee Lauder fan or a liner buff, you can try this out (its Limited Edition) but if you’re just looking for a felt-tip liner, Maybelline and Colorbar have much more affordable options.
Swatches : L – Single swipe, R – 3 swipes
The GOOD about Estee Lauder Pure Color Quick-Thick Eye Liner :
– Sturdy, luxurious packaging
– Shorter length makes it easier to control
– Thick tip makes drawing thick lines and cat eyes a breeze
– Deep dark black color
– Wears well
– Dries quickly
The NOT-SO-GOOD about Estee Lauder Pure Color Quick-Thick Eye Liner :
– Not waterproof
– Not the best thing for thin lines
– Expensive/Limited Edition
While the Estee Lauder Pure Color Quick-Thick Eye Liner is the easiest and most effortless eye liner I’ve ever used, I wouldn’t want to splurge so much on a high end liner when there are so many other more affordable options in the market. However, if you do decide to pick this up, you won’t be disappointed. The thick tip is a breeze to use and gives dark black color in a single swipe that dries down quickly. The liner stays put all day with no flaking and also contains very fine shimmer that adds a subtle glistening effect.
