Today I’m reviewing the Rimmel London Taupe kohl I showed you few days back in my Rimmel Haul. I love using nude kohl on the waterline to open up the eyes but nude eye liners are so difficult to find! I fortunately picked up MAC Chromagraphic pencils a long time ago (they are Limited Edition) but whenever a reader asks me to recommend, there is nothing to recommend since there was nothing available in India till now! I got super excited to see this Taupe shade at Rimmel, its the closest one to a nude kohl I’ve seen in India so far, read on to see if it works..
Price : Rs 270 for 1.2 g
My take on the Product
It comes in a sharpenable plastic pencil form – the outer packaging is taupe in color like the kohl so its super easy to locate it from a bunch of liners and kajals! I generally prefer wooden pencils but waterproof formulae always come in plastic pencil packaging. The texture of the kohl is quite soft, it glides smoothly with no tugging on the delicate waterline. The color pay off is great and a few seconds after application, the kohl ‘sets’ to a waterproof finish. It wears a full 6 hours on my waterline before it begins to fade a little from the edges. The only issue I have with it is that it *slightly* irritates my eyes. I think thats because its waterproof. I don’t generally like wearing waterproof pencils on my waterline as I feel mild irritation few hours after application and the same happens with this kohl. My eye doesn’t get red or watery but after about 3-4 hours, it just feels mildly irritated. I was so excited when I found this pencil but I’m a little disappointed!
The color Taupe is soft grey color. Flesh toned liners on the waterline always make my eyes look brighter and bigger but this one doesn’t work as well. On duskier complexions it might work but on pale-medium complexions, I think it’ll look more grey than nude. Somehow it ended up looking nice in pictures – almost like a nude pencil but in person, its not so nude. Even so, since flesh toned liners are very hard to come by, this is not a bad option if you want a soft color to open up the eyes a little. Considering the price, I think its worth a try. If you have sensitive eyes, it might be a gamble because the formula might irritate your eyes a little like it did for me.
The GOOD about Rimmel Scandal Eyes Kohl 004 Taupe :
- Easy to locate, convenient pencil packaging
- Soft, smooth texture
- Good color pay off
- Wears well
- Brightens up eyes
The NOT-SO-GOOD about Rimmel Scandal Eyes Kohl 004 Taupe :
- Irritates my eyes a little after 3-4 hours of wear
- May not work as a brightener for pale complexions
Rimmel London Scandal Eyes Waterproof Kohl 004 Taupe is a soft grey color that is the closest thing to a nude kohl that is available in India. The formula is soft and smooth, well pigmented and waterproof. It wears well on the waterline though it irritates my eyes a little after few hours. The color may work in brightening and opening up the eyes but more so for medium to dusky complexions. On very pale women, it would show up more grey than nude. I love the price, its very affordable. Just wish it wasn’t waterproof!
