My take on the Product

As you can see from the pictures, the product comes in a twist up stick packaging which I find very convenient to use. The color scheme of the BB stick is same as the Indian BB cream – pale turquoise blue with metallic onion pink motif. I have the Malaysian version of the BB cream which is much plainer in packaging compared to the Indian version. The plastic packaging is quite light weight and sturdy and tiny enough to slip into the smallest of purses!

The texture of the product is quite soft and smooth – it glides onto the skin without any tugging or pulling. It gives pretty good coverage with a small amount of product – almost as good as a medium coverage foundation. I do not need an extra concealer when I’m using this. It can be layered to build up coverage in areas that need some extra attention. It is super easy to blend – just a few dabs of fingers is enough to smoothen it out. Convenience of use aside, what makes this a star product for me is that is actually diminishes the appearance of pores and imperfections to give a very smooth, flawless look! As far as the claim of brightening is concerned, it does add a soft glow to the face. Despite the fact that the shade is slightly dark for me, my skin looks fresh though a bit tanned when I apply this.

The finish is semi-matte and since its already pretty hot in Mumbai, I cannot get away without powder. After powdering, it does keep my face shine free for about 4-5 hours after which my T-zone acquires a bit of shine. But it doesn’t make my skin oily. I’ve been out in the afternoons wearing this and it doesn’t melt off the skin. I’ve worn it for about 8 hours at a stretch and it wore pretty well. I needed to blot my nose after 5 hours of wear but apart from that, the wear was stellar! Despite being mattifying, it doesn’t make the skin dry or stretchy, the skin feels velvety soft even in the troublesome dry areas (my nose)after a day’s wear. It claims to have Salicyclic acid for treating breakouts but I haven’t noticed any change in a breakout on my chin in 3 days. I’m guessing the concentration might be too low for treating large pimples.

The formula contains SPF 21 AND PA+++ so you can skip your sunscreen. Most foundations/TMs offer some SPF but rarely does a product come with SPF and UVA protection. This is what really makes it a multi-tasker!

I’ve tried the BB cream and liked it though it doesn’t wear well on my oily skin in hot weather and gives lesser coverage. The BB stick however addresses all these concerns. I think its a MUST-HAVE for summers! Its best suited for oily skin but I think if you moisturize well before application, it can work just as well for other skin types. I have some dry patches around my nose at the moment and it did not emphasize them or make them drier. In this price range, I think this is perhaps the best product I’ve tried. I expected it to be similar to the Lotus Herbals Naturalblend Swift makeup but it is much much better!

So far you can see I’m absolutely smitten by the product but here comes the downside. Its available only in 2 shades. I was sent a sample (Fawn – the darker shade) by the PR and its a tad darker for my skin. Radiance (the lighter shade) might be perhaps too light for me. Fawn does work for me, it doesn’t make me look dull, just a little tanned but a medium shade is definitely needed in this range! I hope Maybelline is listening! Its such a spectacular product otherwise, I hate taking away points for this drawback!

Fawn is exactly the shade of my arm which is a shade darker than my face, you can see it vanishes once blended –

  8. Diminishes pores and imperfections
  9. Controls oil
  10. Wears well
  11. Doesn’t melt off the skin in hot weather

  13. Affordably priced!

The NOT-SO-GOOD about Maybelline Clearglow Shine free BB Stick :

  1. Only 2 shades available

Overall Verdict

Maybelline Clearglow Shine free BB Stick does pretty much all it claims – its conceals, brightens, evens out skin tone and gives a flawless smooth look to the face. It is easy to use, blends seamlessly and offers protection against UVA and UVB rays. The coverage is about medium but can be layered to get better concealing. I am blown over by how good this is and despite the shade mismatch, how well it wears on my combination skin. I wish Maybelline introduces a Medium shade, I hate to take away points for shade limitation! I think this is MUST-HAVE for Summers!

Rating : 4.75/5

      March 8, 2013 / 12:23 pm

If you have dry skin you can stick to the cream. The stick would be better for touch ups/oily skin.

    March 11, 2013 / 2:33 pm

Hi Ankita, its seems gud product but im unsure that which shade will suits me better. As my complexion is medium fair. and Fawn seems to be dark. I am having lil dry but normal skin.

  18. March 11, 2013 / 4:54 pm

Sorry for the dumb ass query but is a primer needed before this and if so, can u pl suggest one? n if i need more SPF, do i use a sunscreen below? mine is an oily, acne prone skin with dark spots and blemishes. So for everyday make up I’ll need what…a moisturiser, primer, sunscreen n then this (or any foundation) :-/??

    • Corallista
      March 15, 2013 / 1:38 am

Hey, I don’t think you need a primer underneath this because it stays long and minimizes imperfections – 2 things primers are required for. For everyday makeup, you need this along with a powder on top. If you are not exposed to the sun for very long everyday, you can skip sunscreen too. Apply oil free moisturizer, sunscreen (optional) and then the BB stick. Add some compact powder on top using a fluffy brush to set the BB stick.

    March 11, 2013 / 9:55 pm

Very helpful review, hoping to by one asap. How do you apply it? Do you apply it all over your face? What else did you put on the face along with this, to get the complete look?

    • Corallista
      March 15, 2013 / 9:58 pm

Hey Fari, sorry for the late reply. You swipe the stick on your face – 3 swiped on the cheeks to the jawline, one on the chin, one across forehead and along the nose. Then use your fingers to blend it till you get a uniform finish. I applied Maybelline Dream matte powder all over the face and Clarins Blush Prodige 02 on the cheeks.

  20. March 11, 2013 / 11:43 pm

I have yellow undertone, which of these two shades should I go for?

    • Corallista
      March 12, 2013 / 11:32 am

Go for Fawn. Radiance is light and pink toned.

  21. March 14, 2013 / 3:13 pm

Great review. It has convinced me to go and buy Maybelline BB stick. I hope it works well for me. 🙂

Hi ankita…after goin through ur review I bought ths stick..actly nxt week I wil b goin for south india trip so wil thr b any req to use sunscreen if I use ths stick as u said tht ths stick hav SPF..

    • Corallista
      March 15, 2013 / 1:40 am

The SPF 21 will protect you from about 2-2.5 hours of sun. If you’re going to be in the sun for more than 2 hours, do wear a sunscreen underneath.

Thanks for the lovely review. I have a fair skin tone. I should go for the ‘Radiance’ shade , right?

    • Corallista
      March 27, 2013 / 5:08 pm

If you’re very fair with pinkish undertones, then Radiance would work for you.

  30. March 29, 2013 / 1:11 pm

    Hi Corallista
This was great! I’m going to have to try the Maybelline Clearglow Shine free BB Stick. I usually don’t have a lot of time to do makeup so I am glad that it easy easy to apply.

    May 12, 2013 / 12:24 am

Hey, i am getting more and more addicted to your blog.
For mr make up was all about a moisturizer witha kajal and liner until last week i went to make up class :p
I had a query, though generally face make up includes moisturizer primer, foundation, concealer, when using BB stick what all other things we need to avoid or use?
Also, i have a very fair skin with pinkish tone, and when i use maybelline bb cream(radiance), my skin becomes extra white. 🙁

    • Corallista
      June 30, 2013 / 3:57 pm

Hey Nidhi! Hope you’re enjoying your foray into makeup! If you’re using a BB cream with medium coverage, you can skip foundation else the overall look will be too heavy and cakey. Use concealer in only areas that you need extra coverage – pigmentation/spots etc.

    • February 4, 2014 / 3:01 pm

hey even I face the same problem.I have fair skin with pinkish tone.Fawn made me look tanned so I went for radiance and that make me ghostly white.I tried using the minimum amt and blending it all over the face with a brush.I worked to some extent when I used so little product to cover up the whole face.

  33. July 15, 2014 / 8:20 pm

please let me know whether this is good for daily wear?

    • July 16, 2014 / 9:06 pm

Yes you can wear it daily if the color and formula works for you.

Hi Ankita, Absolutely loved ur post! I have sensitive and oily skin and medium tone.Could you please suggest a good BB cream for me ?? Also would BB cream or CC cream be better??

    • June 7, 2015 / 2:16 pm

A BB cream is better. CC cream is more dewy generally and better for drier skin. I like the Colorbar BB cream for oily skin.

Hi ankita, I have an oily skin. I want to use a fairness cream and i am dusky. I dont want to use foundation or compact powder. Just want to use only fairness cream which would keep my face fresh and bright. Can you suggest a day time fairness cream and also i would like to know the brand as well?
