What Clinique says about the Product :

What’s colourful, chubby and chock-full of moisture?  Clinique’s new pleasantly plump and playful nourishing lip balm.  Packed with ‘do-gooders’ to keep lips luscious and irresistibly soft, NEW Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm provides a sheer hint of colour that glides on effortlessly, leaving behind a natural blush of colour and sheen.

Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm’s highly moisturizing formula uses a special blend of decadent butters, oils and antioxidants to help protect and pamper lips with immediate and lasting moisturization.  Infused with Shea Butter, Mango Seed Butter and Jojoba Seed Oil, Chubby Stick delivers a surge of moisture in a sleek stick leaving lips soft, supple and soothed.

Packaged in a playful, shade-matched crayon-esque barrel, the balm-like formula provides stay-true colour and buildable coverage.  To apply, simply twist the base to expose more balm and twist back down before replacing the cap.  Available in eight mouthwatering shades, ranging from nudes to pretty pinks and deep purples, it’s the perfect accoutrement for any occasion. Don’t leave home without one of these pout pleasers in.

My take on the Product

The Clinique Chubby sticks comes in a chubby crayon packaging. The packaging is shade matched so its pretty each to locate them if you own more than one of these. The great thing about these is that they are twist-up type crayon. So there is no wastage of product because of sharpening. The twist up mechanism is pretty smooth. I love the cute and convenient packaging of these pencils!

As one would expect, the texture is smooth and buttery but not soft to the point of being crumbly. It feels very comfortable and moisturizing on the lips. The pigmentation is sheer and on layering 3-4 times, one can get medium coverage and an even tone. I have pigmented lips and on layering the crayon in 3-4 swipes, I get a decent coverage and color. The finish is balm-like glossy, a finish I absolute love as it gives a very natural, healthy look to the lips. Its not juicy wet like a gloss but not satiny like a lipstick. The sheer color and balm-y texture is a great combination for everyday wear, one doesn’t have to worry about lipstick stains, patchiness, color settling in lines etc. with this. The only thing to worry about is reapplication since it doesn’t stay beyond 3 hours. A meal will definitely finish it off. But while using a product with this kind of texture/pigmentation, long wear time is an unrealistic expectation!

Overall, I quite like the formula though at the end of the day, its just a tinted balm. Its not a very unique product but if you’d like to splurge a little, you would enjoy using these!  Clinique products are fragrance-free and allergy tested though I would have enjoyed a fruity fragrance with these consistent with their names.

I have a weakness for buttery textures and I’m quite tempted to try out  Two Ton Tomato and Chunky Cherry, they are so my kind of colors!

Graped Up is sheer mocha shade containing  no shimmer. It is such a great nude for my skin tone (and you know how picky I am when it comes to nude lip colors!). I love wearing it with a slightly heavier eye. It doesn’t show much on me when I have no makeup on, sheer berries and reds are the shades to go for when you’re going bare faced. But with a statement eye, it looks just so natural and effortless. I love the understated glossy finish as well!

This might not be the best shade for duskier beauties but for fair to medium complexions, this is a great neutral!

The GOOD about Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Color Balm Graped-Up :

  1. Attractive and convenient packaging
  2. Smooth texture
  3. Sheer pigmentation ; can be built up by layering
  4. Comfortable and moisturizing
  5. Gives medium coverage on layering
  6. Natural soft glossy finish
  7. Gives a healthy look to the lips
  8. Natural, effortless color

The NOT-SO-GOOD about Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Color Balm Graped-Up :

  1. Needs to be reapplied every 3 hours/after meals

Overall Verdict

Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Color Balms combine sheer color with a comfortable balm texture that is natural and effortless on the lips. The color intensity can be built up layering, enough to cover up pigmented lips and the emollient texture keeps the lips hydrated and smooth. I love buttery textures and even though these are expensive, they are quite worth the splurge! If you like tinted lip balms and love the cute packaging, do give these a go! Graped-Up is a sheer mocha brown that makes a great nude for fair to medium complexions. I love it with a heavily lined eye!

The Revlon ones have more pigment and are staining, the Clinique ones are more moisturizing and more balm-like. I’m yet to try out the Balm stains!

ankita, are these as moisturing as a serious lip balm?
i was eyeing on the holiday gift set but they were all sold out!

Corallista said on 28-02-2013

They are pretty moisturizing, not as much as the best lip balms out there but fairly good!

Graped up/Richer Raisin would be a nice nude. For a colored one, try Chunky Cherry!
