Hey everyone!

Today I’m reviewing the Colorbar Lash Illusion Mascara Duo which contains a volumizing end and a lengthening end and is one of the best dramatic mascaras I’ve tried!

Price : Rs 399  for 4ml+4ml

What Colorbar says about the Product :

Available in Black, this duo-step Mascara makes the eyelashes look naturally thick and long with its lash lengthening and lash volumizer. It prevents lashes from falling or breaking and is water resistant. The Mascara does not flake or clump and is suitable for sensitive eyes and those who wear contact lenses.

My take on the product

The Mascara comes with 2 wands – a Volumising one and a Lengthening one – one at each end of the tube. To me, the wands seem identical and even the final effect with each looks about the same (comparison pictures later in the post). The wands are quite small and fairly thin so they are easy to use especially on the inner and lower lashes. The wands don’t pick up too much product so there isn’t much clumping. The fibre bristles are densely packed in both the wands.

The formula of the mascara is on the drier side which causes it to flake slightly. I prefer runnier mascaras even though they take time to dry because they coat the lashes very evenly with no flaky bits. The lashes look slightly untidy because of the uneven coating but not majorly so. Since its not a very wet formula, it dries pretty quickly. The formula is water-resistant and it comes off easily with an eye makeup remover (I used bi-phase ones). As far as the effect goes, it adds plenty of drama to the eyes along with a really nice curl. There is hardly any difference between the effects of the 2 wands – both add lots of length and a generous amount of volume. With 2 coats, one gets dramatic long, lush lashes. The one thing I really like about this mascara is that the lashes don’t feel stiff and heavy to touch when the mascara is on. The color is a nice deep jet black which adds to the drama!

In the pics below,  you can see that the effect of the 2 wands are not very different. I used both the Volumising and Lengthening wands on the right eye (your left) and 2 coats of only the Lengthening end on the left eye (your right). You can see that the effects are pretty much the same though quite nice and dramatic! In the 3rd image, you can see how much length it adds to my lashes!

The GOOD about Colorbar Lash Illusion Mascara Duo :

  1. Small wands – easy to handle
  2. Doesn’t take long to dry
  3. Minimal clumping
  4. Adds curl, volume and length giving lots of drama
  5. Deep black color
  6. Comes off without difficulty using an eye makeup remover
  7. Doesn’t make the lashes stiff/hard

The NOT-SO-GOOD about Colorbar Lash Illusion Mascara Duo :

  1. The dry formula packs on flaky bits on the lashes

Overall Verdict

Overall, its a good mascara though the 2 different wands are hardly different from each other. It adds volume, length and curl to the lashes with minimal clumping and comes off easily with an eye makeup remover. The formula is on the drier side so there may be a bit of flaking. On the upside, the small wand make it easy to coat the inner/smaller lashes and the formula doesn’t make the lashes stiff. I think its a really good mascara and well priced as well!

This looks really good, but I’ll still stick to Falsies from Maybelline. Pass for me!

I do see some difference in the volume and volume plus length pics, or is it just my imagination haha.. I love the effect of this mascara, and it’s so affordable! Will definitely be trying this out :) thanks for the detailed review! x

This is very similar to the revlon lash fantasy total defination.. while the first strike in that is for priming your lashes with a white coloured liquid and the second is the normal black coloured one.

Although it does define my lashes but clumps a lot. Ive tried the lakme eyeconic curling mascara.. i think that’s the best right now

Seems to be a nice product..I got to buy one. But which one would you prefer – this or Maybelline The Falsies Volum’Express Mascara?

I’d prefer Maybelline Falsies not cos of the effect but because it has a wetter formula – I find them easier to work with.

I have this one.. It really adds volume to my lashes. The only problem is that it’s not waterproof or water resistant.. It comes off as soon as water touches my lashes..
But I still quite like it because it makes my lashes look fuller and doesn’t clump.. I just shouldn’t cry after applying it :P

Your lashes are pretty even without the mascara ^.^ Seems good. I wonder if it would do justice to my lower lashes :D they are the tiniest and sparsest ever :D
