Hey everyone!
Today I’m reviewing a gorgeous neutral lip pencil from MAC ~ Spice (part of the Permanent range).
Price : Rs 950/$15 for 1.45 g/0.05 US oz
What MAC says about the Product :
A pencil designed for shaping, lining or filling in the lip. Lip Pencils have a smooth, creamy texture that is perfect for lining the lips or filling them in. They are long-lasting and available in a wide selection of colours that each work well with many different lipstick shades.
My take on the product
MAC lip Pencils come in a simple wooden pencil packaging with a plastic cap. The end of the pencil is colored so you can store these upside down and the shades can be easily located. The pencil sharpens easily enough with any standard sharpener.
The texture of the pencil is smooth though its a little dry but it doesn’t tug at the lips. The pigmentation is great and it gives opaque, matte color in a single swipe. Whenever I use a lip liner, I apply it all over the lip and not just along the outline. Spice is the kind of shade that can be worn without a lipstick on top, its a fantastic neutral for warm toned skin. I have mildly dry lips so I never wear this color by itself since it can be drying on the lips. I always top it with a little bit of balm or gloss and it stays for 6+ hours on my lips. It doesn’t settle into lip lines and as long as you have applied something on top, the lips don’t get parched either. A lot of lip liners can be very unforgiving on the lips but that is not the case with this. But since its quite matte, its a good idea to moisturize and exfoliate before applying it.
Overall, I like the formula, its not quite as drying as some of the other lip liners I’ve tried, doesn’t settle into lines and wears extremely well with a little bit of moisturizing agent on top.
While the formula is great, what is really amazing about this product is the color! Spice is a lovely peachy brown color that makes it the perfect neutral for warm toned skin. I’m not a fan of pale nudes and beige toned lip colors as they completely wash me out. Spice was just a chance discovery and I’m so so glad I picked it up. It is the perfect balanced neutral for me – not too brown, not pale, enough of peach to give a healthy look. You don’t need a heavy eye to wear this on the lips, it works just as well with a neutral eye for a natural look. For duskier beauties, this might be a nice nude. I’d highly recommend this to everyone!
I love wearing this topped with MAC Cremesheen glass in Deelight, its pretty sheer so what you see here is a glossy version of the Lip Liner itself -
The GOOD about MAC Lip Pencil Spice :
- Simple packaging, sharpens easily
- Smooth Texture
- Good pigmentation
- Doesn’t settle into lip lines
- Excellent wear time (worn as lipstick)
- Great neutral for warm skin tone, goes with everything
- Extends wear time of lipstick when worn under it
The NOT-SO-GOOD about MAC Lip Pencil Spice :
- Can be drying when worn alone
Overall Verdict
Spice is a gorgeous peachy brown lip pencil that I often wear on the entire lip topped with a bit of nude gloss. The texture of the pencil is smooth though its a little drying since it has a matte finish. It doesn’t however settle into lines or stick to dry bits and wears easily for 6+ hours. I love the shade, its one of those great neutrals that goes with everything and doesn’t wash you out. Highly recommended!

what colors are you wearing on your eyes here?
MAC Old Gold Pigment
Pretty colour… Any dupes that you can think of.. I’m looking for a neutral lip pencil like this..
Hi Sumathi, you can try coastal scents lip liner in “natural”. Its quite similar.
I think colorbar has a similar shade….
Nice Ankita. Ur lips look perfecto. I have lip liner ‘Have to have it’ in mac. It’s a beautiful nude liner. It covers my pigmentation well before applying any other light shade lipstick. But when I top it up with a gloss, it fades off:( and I’m not that comfortable with it.
Can u pls do a tut for the same? It will be really really helpful for all of us.
Hey Preethi, use the blot and reapply technique, that generally helps. I’ll do a tutorial soon.
