Maybelline’s Color Tattoo eye shadows were an instant hit when they launched last year. I liked them but they didn’t work as well for my oily lids as well as wear time was concerned. But I do love the shades, the texture and the price! Today I’m reviewing the shade Bold Gold from this range.
Price : Rs 350 for 4 g
What Maybelline says about the Color Tattoo 24hr eye shadows :
Dare to wear our longest-lasting shadow.
Our ink technology creates super-saturated color.
Cream gel smoothes on for vibrant color that does not fade.
My take on the Product
The first thought that comes to mind when one looks at these eye shadows is that they are very similar to MAC Paint pots – same round pot packaging and same cream formula that dries down to a smudgeproof finish. The Maybelline ones come with a nice brush unlike MAC Paint pots. The brush is a flat applicator type brush and is perfect for applying cream eye shadows.
The texture of the eye shadow is quite soft and smooth, there is no dryness or tug in the texture. It glides smoothly on the eyes and doesn’t dry down too quickly, giving enough time for blending and working with it. The pigmentation is good, you don’t need to pack on the color to make it show. The one drawback that almost all cream eye shadows that set have is the slightly dry look they give to the lids. When they dry down, they give a papery look to the skin which may not be noticeable on younger women but older women would not find it flattering – it enhances the wrinkles and folds of the lid. I have seen this effect more pronounced in case of MAC paint pots as they tend to dry faster as compared to the Maybelline Color Tattoo eye shadows.
Bold Gold is packed with micro shimmer so it was a slightly gritty in texture but not abrasive or uncomfortable. It stayed on much better than shades Audacious Asphalt and Bad to the Bronze on my oily lids. I got nearly 6 hours of wear time with minimal creasing as opposed to the 4 hours I got with the other 2 shades. The shade is a gorgeous yellow gold with lots of gold shimmer, its one my favorite shades for easy eye makeup looks and I love how the shimmer catches the light. I’ve taken the product pictures in direct sunlight so you can see the light bouncing off the shimmer in the pictures. The shade is not too metallic or intense which makes it very wearable. Its my favorite shade from this range so far, a fabulous one for warm/tanned skin tones and I’ll recommend it to everyone!

The GOOD about Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 hr eye shadow :
- Comes with a good quality brush
- Soft, smooth texture
- Gives enough time before drying for blending
- Sets into a smudgeproof, waterproof finish after application
- Good pigmentation
- Non-gritty shimmer
- Good quantity
- Great price
- Staying power could be better
- May give a dry look to wrinkled/ageing eyes
Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 hr eye shadow in Bold Gold is a gorgeous shimmery gold that is easy to wear and would flatter Indian skin tones. The formula is similar to MAC paint pots – pigmented cream eye shadow that dries down to a smudge proof, waterproof finish but not before giving some time to work with it. The only major drawback with these is that they crease within 6 hours on my oily lids.
Rating : 4.25/5
