Today I’m reviewing the newly launched Maybelline Super Stay Lipstick in the shade Eternal Rose. This latest launch from Maybelline hit counters in India few days ago and I was hoping to find some pretty, bright shades. I was quite disappointed with the dull shade selection but I did love the shade Eternal Rose which I’m reviewing today.
Price : Rs 525 for 3.3 g

My take on the Product
The Maybelline Super stay lipsticks come in a transparent and white packaging. The cap is white while the bottom half is the same color as the shade which is quite convenient in case you own more than 1 shade. The bullet is housed in a silver tube inside and the shape of the bullet tip reminds me of L’Oreal Paris Infallible lipsticks (another long stay one!). I don’t particularly like the packaging but I don’t dislike it either. I think it could have been nicer and more plush looking though.
The lipstick has a smooth texture, intense pigmentation and is reasonably soft. However, it doesn’t feel very comfortable on the lips as it has a slight tug and stickiness, something common to many long stay lipsticks. One cannot wear these without moisturizing and exfoliating the lips as the formula sticks to dry, flaky bits. I didn’t experience any drastic dryness with the formula though. I wore this for around 9 hours and it did stay on quite well with minimal fading. It would have worn longer (maybe 14 hours as it claims) had I not removed it. The color though got a bit patchy after about 6 hours so it wasn’t a pretty sight up close. I didn’t touch up with balm or gloss in between just to see how well it wears though one should probably do that so prevent the lips looking too parched. It is moderately staining and the pigment tends to settle into lip lines especially as dryness sets in.
The lipstick has a matte finish though not dry matte, you can see a hint of creaminess which settles down after a few hours of wear. These are not transfer-proof though and will transfer to cups, glasses etc. The lipstick also has a strong fruity scent but its not unpleasant or overly artificial so I don’t mind it. Since it is quite pigmented, it gives full opaque coverage to the lips.
Overall, its not a bad formula at all but its not the most comfortable or effortless either. If you wish to wear this lipstick for a long time, you need to prep your lips prior to application and a touch up with some moisturizing agent is a must after 4-6 hours of wear. Compared to the L’Oreal Infallible Lipsticks, I find the L’Oreal formula a bit more comfortable than the Maybelline Super Stay.
I tried taking many pictures of the swatches that showed the true color but I always ended up with a very cool toned image. The lipstick is warmer than how it looks in the swatch, the color on the lips gives a more accurate image of the shade.
Eternal Rose is a gorgeous vivid rose pink shade. Its not overly warm or cool, just a very balanced flattering pink. I think it’ll work for a lot of skin tones, its bright and freshening and not garish or neon. Paired with a pink blush and neutral easy eyes, Eternal Rose totally gives a youthful lift to the face. Its not exactly an office friendly color but anytime you want a quick pick-me-up if you’re headed out with no time for an elaborate routine, these kind of shades perk up the face beautifully. I would recommend this to all women who like pink lipsticks.

The GOOD about Maybelline Super Stay 14 hour Lipstick Eternal Rose :
- Colored packaging – makes it easy to locate
- Smooth texture
- Intense pigmentation
- Long wear (without drastic drying)
- Full opaque coverage
- Strong fruity scent
- Eternal Rose – gorgeous shade!
The NOT-SO-GOOD about Maybelline Super Stay 14 hour Lipstick Eternal Rose :
- Drying over time
- Cannot be worn on un-exfoliated lips
- Color transfers, tends to settle into lip lines
- Not very comfortable on the lips
- Less quantity (3.3 g)
The Maybelline Super Stay lipsticks pack rich pigment in a reasonably smooth formula which is not overly drying. It wears quite long though the lips need some moisture a few hours into wear. Long stay lipsticks are a personal preference. I personally like richer, more comfortable buttery formulas but I know many women who like matte finish long stay lipsticks. If you’re one of the latter, you might really like these! Eternal Rose is the prettiest shade from the colors launched in India – a vivid bright rose pink that instantly perks up the face. Recommended!
