Hey everyone!
Today I’m reviewing a dark plummy brown shade of lipstick from Maybelline Colorsensational High Shine range.
Price : Rs 399
Can be purchased online HERE.
My take on the Product
I have previously reviewed the shade Fruit Punch from this range HERE.
Plum shine is a plum tinged brown with a hint of red. It contains fine shimmer particles that can be slightly gritty if the lip color is applied on dry lips. I’m not particularly fond of the color, I think I need a bright blush/outfit with it otherwise it makes my complexion look a little dull. I think it might look nicer on duskier skin. Plum Shine is the darkest shade from this range.
The Colorsensational High shine lipsticks come in the same rectangular packaging as the regular Colorsensational line except the packaging has a silver mirror finish. The end has a colored label with the shade name and number which makes it easy to locate. I like the packaging though I liked the colored one of the regular line more! The lipstick bullet swivels up and down smoothly. The packaging is sturdy and travel safe as well.
It has sheer-to-medium coverage, buildable pigmentation, is fairly smooth in texture (though the shimmer is slightly gritty) and a lip balm is an absolute must underneath this. On dry/flaky lips, the lip color looks terrible because of the shimmer. It wear well – about 3.5-4 hours with light snacking but wears off faster with a heavy meal. There might be shimmer left behind once the color has worn off if you haven’t moisturized before application. It is not quite as staining as Fruit Punch. It doesn’t feel as moisturizing as Fruit Punch either but that could just be the dry weather right now (I tested Fruit Punch in the summer).
Overall, I’m not too fond of the formula especially for winters. Even though it has a glossy finish, I find it just looks nicer on the lips when the weather isn’t so dry. I don’t like shimmer in lipsticks which is another reason why I don’t like this formula. As far as the color goes, its a nice sheer dark shade for winters but it doesn’t do anything for my complexion unlike Fruit Punch (warm fuchsia) from the same range.
Would recommend to : Women looking for a wearable winter lip color, Duskier beauties who wear brownish shades well.
How it looks on me ~
The GOOD about Maybelline Colorsensational High Shine lipstick Plum Shine :
- Sturdy packaging
- Smooth texture
- Medium (buildable coverage)
- Has a glossy finish
- Decent staying power
- Not drying on the lips
- Wearable Winter lip color
The NOT-SO-GOOD about Maybelline Colorsensational High Shine lipstick Plum Shine :
- The shimmer feels gritty
- Needs lip balm underneath to prevent settling of shimmer in lip lines
- The color may make you look dull
Overall Verdict
Maybelline Colorsensational High shine lipsticks are an extension of the regular Colorsensational but with a modified packaging and glossy/shimmery color. Plum Shine is a red-plum tinged brown which makes a nice wearable winter color but may you look a little dull. The formula isn’t too great for the winters mainly on account of the shimmer. However, if you moisturize well before application, the shimmer doesn’t settle into lip lines. The color wears well for 3.5-4 hours with mild staining.
Rating : 3.5/5
