Today I’m reviewing a beautiful liquid lipstick, the latest offering from Shiseido – Lacquer Rouge in shade RS 312 Sunstone.
Price : Rs 1500 ($25 in the US) for 6 ml
What Shiseido says about the product :
Inspired by Japanese Laquerware, one coat provides intense color and deep luster. This rich liquid lipstick leaves lips as smooth as lacquer. Applicator fits closely against the lips for a comfortable, even application that does not bleed. Lacquer Rouge improves dry, rough or peeling lips with continued use, leaving them smooth and deeply moisturized.
Contains Super Hydro-Wrap Vitalizing DE.
My take on the Product
Shiseido Lacquer Rouge lipstick is basically a glossy, liquid lip color that comes in an opaque tube packaging containing a standard slanted sponge tip applicator inside. I like the classy black packaging but I wish it was transparent so that one could see how much product was left inside the tube. Another thing not-so-great about the packaging is that the applicator picks up too little product, one needs to dip into the tube at least twice to get enough color on the lips. The upside of the small applicator is that is fits perfectly in the corners of the lips, giving easy and flawless application.
The lipstick has a light-weight texture, its neither too thick nor too runny, it feels quite thin and weightless on the lips. There is just a very tiny amount of stickiness but that is hardly detectable. The lip color is high coverage and well pigmented, single swipe gives opaque color to the lips. The finish is quite glossy but it shine wears off a few hours later. It feels moisturizing and very forgiving on the lips. Even when applied on dry lips, it does not highlight the dry/flaky bits. This property is very desirable in a long stay lip color such as this one. I easily wears 5-6 hours on me. The color is non-staining. Though the formula is hydrating, after about 4 hours, I feel the need to moisturize a bit in winters. But the lips do not LOOK dry or parched. I love how light it feels on the lips despite being long wear. Overall, I really like the formula. Long stay, comfortable, non-staining formulas in lipstick aren’t very easy to find!
The shade RS 312 Sunstone is a dusty rose shade with very fine shimmer. The shade makes a beautiful everyday shade for Indian skin and the underlying dustiness makes it very wearable, giving it a natural look. The shimmer is very fine and non-gritty. The shade is not on the nude side, in fact it gives me a very healthy look when I pair it with a pink blush and looks more pink than dusty pink. The color appears a little more toned down in the FOTD while the swatch gives a more accurate idea of the color.
This is a shade you can’t go wrong with. You don’t need to work the rest of the makeup around it to make it look good. Coupled with its excellent formula, I think this will be easily become one of my most-used lip colors!

The GOOD about Shiseido Lacquer Rouge Lipstick RS 312 :
- Elegant, classy packaging
- Light weight texture
- Non-sticky formula
- Full coverage
- Long wearing
- Non gritty shimmer, does not settle into lip lines
- Does not bleed
- Gives a healthy glossy finish
- Feels comfortable despite being long wear
The NOT-SO-GOOD about Shiseido Lacquer Rouge Lipstick RS 312 :
- The packaging is opaque ; the applicator picks up very little product
- Not available everywhere in India
Apart from the little packaging gripe, I have no complaints when it comes to this beautiful liquid lipstick. With its light–weight, full coverage, long stay formula, this lipstick is easy to wear and eliminates the need for touch ups upto 6 hours. I love the glossy finish and the non–gritty shimmer gives a lovely shine to the lips. The shade RS 312 Sunstone is a dusty rose shade that would be a very flattering everyday shade for Indian skin tone. Highly recommended!
