Hey everyone!

Today I’m reviewing one of the most popular products from Ben Nye ~ luxury powder in shade Cameo. You might have heard of the yellow tinged shade of this powder ‘Banana‘ which I believe is used by Kim Kardashian’s make up artist.

Price : Rs 540 for 42 gm (smaller size)

Availability : 4 shades, 2 sizes at New Beauty Centre, Khar (SV Road, Mumbai)

Can also be purchased online internationally HERE.

What Ben Nye says about the product :

Formerly known as Visage Poudre Luxury Powders, these ultra-neutral powders provide superior matte and subtle finishing. Often compared to French powders with silky-fine textures. the Ben Nye Bella line of powders are translucent with just a hint of color.

My take on the Product

Ben Nye Luxury Powder comes in a simple tub packaging with a perforated top. The packaging is simple but very inconvenient to use. You need to take out the powder in the lid (which is too small for this purpose) or in a dish for application. You might end up taking out too much powder in the beginning as the perforations are quite large. But as you use it, you’ll get the hang of how much you need to take out for each application. I’m thinking of buying Lakme Rose Powder (it costs around Rs 90-100) just to use its packaging for storing this so that its easier to use.

The powder is very fine milled and has a smooth, silky texture. It blends very easily giving a nice satiny finish to the skin. It doesn’t get patchy, doesn’t give a dry powdery look to the face and smoothens out the complexion. It is excellent for me during the winters because it sets foundation without the dry, matte look. It doesn’t get cakey even if you end up using a little excess. The only drawback I see with is the poor oil control. In this weather, my skin is combination with oily T-zone and dry cheeks. With this powder on, my T-zone begins to show shine within 3-3.5 hours of application. During the summers however, I’ll probably need to use a mattifying lotion underneath as this powder won’t give sufficient oil control.

The shade Cameo is the lightest of all shades and has a neutral (or maybe slightly cool toned) tint. It is translucent however and except for a slightly brightening on my skin, you can barely detect its presence. For women with yellow undertones, the shade Banana would be perfect. For fair to medium, neutral leaning skin tones, Cameo or Buff would work well.

I think its a really fabulous product – considering the very affordable price and huge quantity! The quality is comparable to high end loose powders (comparing to Clinique Blended face powder) and I’ll highly recommend it to everyone! The availability is a bit of an issue but if you’re visiting Mumbai or have a friend/relative who can ship it to you, do give this a try!

The GOOD about Ben Nye Cameo Luxury Powder :

  1. Silky, smooth texture
  2. Fine milled
  3. Gives a satin-y finish to the skin
  4. Minimizes imperfection
  5. Does not get cakey, patchy
  6. Translucent coverage
  7. Doesn’t give a dry, matte look to the skin
  8. Would suit all skin types
  9. Excellent quality and quantity for the price

The NOT-SO-GOOD about Ben Nye Cameo Luxury Powder :

  1. Poor packaging
  2. Poor oil control
  3. Poor availability

Overall Verdict

Ben Nye Luxury powder is fine milled, silky powder that applies with translucent coverage giving a smooth, satin finish to the skin. It is quite comparable to high end loose powders and one gets a huge quantity (42 g) for the price.  While it may not be the best powder for oil control, it works as an excellent setting powder. I’d highly recommend it to everyone!

The shade Cameo works perfectly for me. If you have yellow undertones, check out the shade Banana.

Rating : 4.5/5

Availability : 4 shades, 2 sizes (42 g is smaller size) at New Beauty Centre, Khar (SV Road, Mumbai)

Can also be purchased online internationally HERE.
