Hey everyone!
Today I’m reviewing a lovely pinkish plum shade from MAC ~ Satin lipstick in Captive! If you’re dusky in complexion and have been looking for the perfect natural pink, this just might be the shade for you!
Price : Rs 990 for 3 g

My take on the Product
MAC Satin lipstick Captive is part of the permanent range and comes in the classic black MAC packaging and has the signature MAC vanilla fragrance.
The texture of the lipstick is smooth and creamy. Satin finishes combine the best of the matte and creamy lipsticks – they have the smooth + non-drying texture of a creamy lipstick and the intense pigmentation + staying power of a matte lipstick. It is not hydrating but it is not unforgiving on the lips either. However if you have chapped lips, you might want to exfoliate them before you wear the Satin finish. The lipstick gives true color in a single swipe on the lips, is mildly staining and a good staying power of 5+ hours. The full coverage makes it perfect for pigmented lips. Formula-wise, it is excellent and everything you would expect from MAC.
The shade Captive is described as a pinkish plum by MAC and it is apt description. The shade is similar to Craving (reviewed HERE) though Craving is a little pinker. Captive would make a fabulous shade for duskier skin tones. On me, I don’t find it particularly flattering. In general, I find plums a little difficult to carry. Unless they have a healthy infusion of pink or red, plums tend to fall flat with my skin tone, not adding any color to my face which is the case with Captive. But if you’re warmer/duskier than me and don’t have a problem wearing plums, you might this a very flattering shade for your lips and a great shade for the Fall/Winter season.
The GOOD about MAC Satin Lipstick Captive :
- Sleek, ,sturdy classy black packaging
- Smooth texture
- Very pigmented
- Non-drying texture
- Creamy matte finish
- Opaque coverage
- Long staying – stays for 5+ hours
- Does not settle into fine lines
- Difficult to locate different shades since there is no colored label
- Not hydrating
- Shade may not look great on everyone
Overall Verdict
MAC Satin finish lipsticks are somewhere between matte and creamy – they are very pigmented and smooth, not so drying as matte lipsticks and have a good lasting power of 5+ hours. Captive is a pinkish plum shade that is neither too vampy nor too bright and thus makes a very balanced Fall/winter lip color. Unfortunately, the shade doesn’t work for me but I’d recommend it to duskier beauties looking for a flattering pink.
