What Lakme says about the Absolute Mattreal Skin Natural Mousse :
This mousse to powder formula delivers a feather-light finish giving you breathable natural skin. While its weightless formulation hides pores, fine lines and uneven skin tone to leave skin peachy soft all through the day.
• Lasts up to 16 hours
• Feather-light texture
• SPF 8
My take on the Product
The Lakme Absolute Mattreal Mousse comes in an attractive round packaging which is pleasing to the eye but not the most convenient to use. Nothing beats pumps/tubes and tub packaging is always a little inconvenient and in this case, a little messy as well. The hemispherical cap screws open to reveal a plastic cover and the lower hemisphere of the packaging which contains the product. I love the look of the packaging but I hate the fact that some product gets into the threads of the screw making is messy.
The product itself is very light weight and has a wonderfully smooth texture. It feels just so slick under the fingers and spreads, blends like a dream. I have used the Maybelline mousse foundation a long time ago and it is nothing compared to this one. The Lakme mousse is like silky whipped cream! The smooth, slippery feel however indicates the presence of silicones which is there in smoothing primers/hair conditioners as well. So if you’re sensitive to silicones or have very sensitive skin, I’d suggest you skip this one. The coverage of the mousse is light-medium. It has a matte finish but not a drying matte, just a very natural matte. It controls oil exceptionally well, you might feel the oil on your T-zone when you blot/touch the area but it won’t show in the form of oil/dullness on the skin which is a great quality in a foundation. Even though its not a hydrating formula, it is not drying or difficult to work with at all. I can see it working for dry skinned women as well (over a moisturizer) but it will be just fabulous for normal to oily skinned women.
I love the fresh look and finish it gives to the skin. Even though the coverage is not enough to cover up under eye pigmentation/dark spots/acne, it evens out the skin sufficiently while still looking very natural. The best part is the freshness is retained for a long long time. It is definitely long wearing, I wore it for about 10 hours with fantastic results. It barely made my T-zone shiny and kept my face looking pretty much the same it was 10 hours ago with minor fading. Another great thing about this foundation is that it minimizes textural imperfections of the skin like pores/lines etc. and gives a smoother looking complexion.
Application : Fingers are the best tool for this foundation. Just dot your face with the product and use your fingertips to spread and blend it. Its super easy to blend.
It has a mild citrus fragrance which I don’t mind but some people might not like it.
The shade 03 Golden Medium is the medium shade in this range, there’s 1 lighter and 1 darker shade. Even though the shade range is limited, I think this shade would work for quite a few skin tones. I’ve seen this on other bloggers which much different skin tone than mine and it suits them as well. It would have been great to have few more shades in the range though, 3 is just too limited! When I first swatched it, it seemed too warm for my skin but on blending out, it looked just perfect!
Overall, I am in love with the product! Generally, light-medium coverage foundation don’t photograph well but as you can see in the pictures, it makes my skin look nearly flawless and naturally glowing! It is an impressive product from Lakme and I’d recommend it to everyone who is not sensitive to silicones!
Wearing Mattreal Skin Natural Mousse topped with Lakme Absolute compact powder :
The GOOD about Lakme Absolute Mattreal Skin Natural Mousse :
- Attractive packaging
- Smooth texture, super easy to blend
- Gives a natural light-medium coverage
- Natural matte finish
- Face looks fresh and glowing post application
- Long stay
- Good oil control
- Mild citrus fragrance (may be a con for some)
- Gives smoother apperance to the skin
- Would suit all skin types
- Photographs very well
The NOT-SO-GOOD about Lakme Absolute Mattreal Skin Natural Mousse :
- Packaging can get a little messy
- Limited shade range
Overall Verdict
Lakme Absolute Mattreal Skin Natural Mousse is an excellent foundation which applies and blends like a dream. While the silky whipped formula makes application a breeze, it might cause breakouts in case you’re sensitive to silicones. It works exceptionally well for combination/oily skin and I can see myself reaching out for this often – both on and off the camera. Light-medium coverage foundation rarely photograph this well!
Coverage : Light to Medium
Finish : Natural Matte
Best suited for : All skin types (highly recommended for normal-oily skin)
Staying power : Excellent
Rating : 4.5/5

oh, it looks so good on you! somehow shades from lakme dont match my skin
Thats too bad
have you checked out the Absolute range?
Was so much waiting for this review. Will get this mousse ASAP.
but one doubt is this product better thn Chambor Matt kl control
Foundation. ( u had reviewed this sometime back)
M currently using Chambor one.
WONDERFUL N DETAILED REVIEW.
Hi Sujala, Chambor is specifically for oily skin while this would work for everyone. I would personally prefer this in winters when my skin is combination and the Chambor one in summers when my skin is more oily.
this seems like a really good product:) great review
Thanks Poorva!
I really hate tub packaging! Things get stuck in my nails!
Thats the only real drawback of this product!
Looks promising, how do I test if I am sensitive to silicones?
Hi Maitri, most people who are allergic generally find out due to reaction to products or a visit to a dermat.
Nice review..I’ve sent this link to my friend who was contemplating about which a medium coverage foundation to buy for the engagement function. thanks for the instant updates on twitter
You’re welcome!
can never get myself to buy lakme foundations n concealers n powders.. detest the fact that they have sch a limited shade range. the only product i gt frm lakme is absolute kohl ( after reading ur review) must say its good. 3 shades for a plethora of skin tones!! nt fair at all.
I agree, 3 shades is too less. Btw I’m loving the Absolute compact powder, review will be up next week!
Nice review Ankita….I’m using the chambor sheer delight ultra matt oil free foundation after reding your review and I’m happy with it. I wil try this once I complete the chambor one.
Hey Preethi, the Chambor one is great for oily skin! I prefer this one for the winters when my skin is not so oily. You’d like it too
completely off the topic… please share your current hair care routine ankita. your hair look amazing here.
hey Ayesha, I’d just got a color, cut and hair spa done which is why it looks so good
And cos its blow dried too!
I am now using Sunsilk Keratinology range which is working well for my hair. Need to use it some more time before i review it.
Wow..this looks like a really nice product! And you actually look flawless, glowing and more gorgeous with that!
Thanks!
ha tgr ws ths one time i went to buy lakme foubdation n the SA actually handed me a white foundation n sd ” ths will make u look fair” that ws the last time i went to lakme for skin base..
Lakme SAs are definitely one of my least favorites, have had terrible experiences with them!
nice review ankita. Can this be worn everyday like a tinted moisturiser or is it heavier than a tinted moisturiser? Actually i like to wear tinted moisturiser on a daily basis like lotus spf 40 or lakme skin naturelle foundation..so is it light as compared to these two? I do have acne prone skin.
Hi Deepti, the coverage is more than a Tinted moisturizer but even with that it looks very natural. Haven’t tried Silk Naturelle but the has more coverage than Lotus SPF 40.
I’d suggest you try it out at the counter since you have acne prone, just to check that you’re not allergic to silicones.
You look pretty here with the nice hairstyle n all…
Thanks Christina!
atlast its here……….i was eagerly waiting 4 dis review….now i can go ahead and buy dis 4 d festival….thank u sooooooooooo much
You’re welcome
How can we come to know that silicones suits us or not
hey Suruchi, most people who are allergic generally find out due to reaction to products or a visit to a dermatologist.
Y’know, when I saw ur Revlon lip butter review, I was gonna ask which foundation u have on since u looked super fresh and flawless! Lakme is churning out some really good stuff. Am loving the wet/dry compact from this range. I have to say again that this foundation looks absolutely great on u
I’m loving the Wet and dry compact as well but it doesn’t work in wet state for me, I can’t get an even application. Though when used dry it is fabulous! Are you able to use it wet?
I don’t remember right, but I used one mousse long back from lakme and it broke me out like mad:( not sure if this is the same formula in a different packing. But it looks good on you and ur tempting me to give it a shot:)
That was the Souffle. I never used it so don’t know how it compares and whether the ingredients are similar. But I definitely love this one!
looks good. are u able to review mac skin finish? Mickey Contracter seems to love it as a contour powder.
Hey Reena, as far as I know MAC MSF is best suited for dry skin. Thats the only reason I’ve not tried it yet.
It looks amazing on u! But shame on Lakme to bring just 3 shades…
I know!
nice review… btw r u wearing the white lace dress from debenhams… i had bought it too and its my fav white dress
Ohh no but I would love a lace dress
I’m wearing a cream crochet top from Bandra.
Ankita, this product looks absolutely the same as the older lakme natural soufflé that also came in small round cute little pots – is this the same as that just a new packaging by the company or do you see any differences?
Also – does this oxidize a little after say about 3 hours?
Hey Shilpa, I had not used the Lakme souffle so can’t comment on how similar they are. This doesn’t oxidise on my skin, it stays the same for a long time!
Very nice review Ankita… I have been using this products since past 2 months and have been thoroughly satisfied with it….it just glides on sooo smoothly on my face…smoother than butter and not at all oily….I have used the previous mousse product from Lakme…..and well this one is way way better than the old one…and the best compliment I had recd after 8 hrs is that….U look so fresh!!!
Sounds awesome, you have answered a lot of queries regarding how the souffle matches with the mousse!
Ankita Plz tell me one thing, if i use this foundation, do i still need to apply primer as a base makeup??
Hi Komal, I don’t think you would need a primer with this one.
awesome product ankita, you hav flawless skin.
your blog is great i keep drooling often, becoz your product selection is just simply too good.:)
i own the same skin type as yours,so most of your reviews have helped me a lot….thanx a ton
waiting for the compact review
Hi Ankita…
which foundation and compact powder is suited for sensitive skin..Pls dont tell me meet derma..Maybelline whitestay compact breaks out next day itself…..Pls list any one which is affordable price..
Hi Divya, since I don’t have sensitive skin, I’m not the best person to recommend especially since I don’t know what ingredient you are allergic to. You could save a lot of money if you consult a dermatologist instead of trying out different brands and not knowing what exactly breaks you out. In my knowledge, Clinique Blended face powder works for sensitive skin, you could try it out. For foundations, I’d suggest Clinique again because their products are fragrance-free and generally suit women who have sensitivity issues.
