What Maybelline says about the Color Tattoo 24hr eye shadows :

Dare to wear our longest-lasting shadow.
Our ink technology creates super-saturated color.
Cream gel smoothes on for vibrant color that does not fade.

My take on the Product

The first thought that comes to mind when one looks at these eye shadows is that they are very similar to MAC Paint pots – same round pot packaging and same cream formula that dries down to a smudgeproof finish. The Maybelline ones come with a nice brush unlike MAC Paint pots. The brush is a flat applicator type brush and is perfect for applying cream eye shadows. But oddly, you don’t get 2 brushes when you buy 2 of these eye shadows, you get only 1.

The texture of the eye shadow is quite soft and smooth, there is no dryness or tug in the texture. It glides smoothly on the eyes and doesn’t dry down too quickly, giving enough time for blending and working with it. The pigmentation is good, you don’t need to pack on the color to make it show. The one drawback that almost all cream eye shadows that set have is the slightly dry look they give to the lids. When they dry down, they give a papery look to the skin which may not be noticeable on younger women but older women would not find it flattering – it enhances the wrinkles and folds of the lid. I have seen this effect more pronounced in case of MAC paint pots as they tend to dry faster as compared to the Maybelline Color Tattoo eye shadows.

While I found the formula very easy to work with, it didn’t quite deliver the staying power I was hoping for. I have oily lids and Bad to the Bronze began slightly creasing on my eyes after 4 hours of wear – not obvious creasing, but creasing nonetheless. After about 6 hours of wear, there was some noticeable fading and slight patchiness. I have known these eye shadow to last really long on other women so I was a little disappointed with this aspect. I’m hoping the other shades would last better! Apart from the staying power, I think it is a great product!

Bad to the Bronze is a soft muted bronze with a metallic sheen. The shade is similar to MAC Indianwood paint pot but its not a dupe. Indianwood had a lot more metallic gold while Bad to the Bronze is less golden and the metallic sheen is softer. The metallic shimmer is minute and non-gritty, you won’t feel it on your lids as you apply/blend the eye shadow. Its a very easy to wear shade and would work beautifully for Indian skin tones, its one shade I’d recommend to everyone from this range!

The GOOD about Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 hr eye shadow :

  1. Comes with a good quality brush
  2. Soft, smooth texture
  3. Gives enough time before drying for blending
  4. Sets into a smudgeproof, waterproof finish after application
  5. Good pigmentation
  6. Non-gritty shimmer
  7. Good quantity
  8. Great price
The NOT-SO-GOOD Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 hr eye shadow :
  1. Staying power does not live up to the claims
  2. May give a dry look to wrinkled/ageing eyes

Overall Verdict

Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 hr eye shadow in Bad to the Bronze is a gorgeous soft metallic bronze that is easy to wear and would flatter Indian skin tones. The formula is similar to MAC paint pots – pigmented cream eye shadow that dries down to a smudgeproof, waterproof finish but not before giving some time to work with it. The only major drawback with this shade is that is creased within the 4-6 hour period on my oily lids.

Rating :  4/5

It doesn’t smudge Preethi, just fades and creases. Endless Chocolate is brown, much darker, its very different from this shade.

Iit looks so nice as an allover lid shade on its own. I am definitely getting this shade. 🙂

I picked bold gold,I initially thought bad to bronze was similar to indianwood but indianwood is more gold and has a more sophisticate sheen, these are good to have variety of shades to be used as base

Ya for me they’d work best as bases since they crease pretty soon. I’m definitely going back from Bold gold and the purple and turquoise ones!

The purple one is really streaky. Not a lot of good reviews on that one. The teal and gold ones seem nice though. I have asphalt and pomegranate … nice shades both.

Wow, they gave you a brush? Here in America they only give us the product. 🙁

Hey Divya, I wouldn’t say they are pigmented enough to be used as liners. You could layer them but still, it won’t be a very strong color.

Hmmm… Funny, I bought two from Shopper’s Stop (Kolkata), I did not get even one brush :O
