My take on the Product

For the longest time, MAC Smolder was my HG kohl, it was deep black just like how I liked my kohls to be, this is, till I came across Lakme Absolute kohl. It has replaced MAC Smolder and all other kohls I have in my stash and unless I’m doing a brand specific look, Lakme Absolute kohl is the one I reach out for.

It comes in a classy black pencil form with a rubber tip smudger at one end and a sharpener at the other end. For me, the sharpener is useful but the smudger is a bit of a waste. The rubber feels too hard on my eyes and I prefer using a pencil brush for smudging. A brush smudger like the one provided with Bourjois smokey eye pencils would have been gentler and hence more useful. Since the kohl is quite soft and creamy, it is housed in a plastic body which can a little difficult to sharpen at times but a little pressure does the trick.

The kohl itself is soft (but not crumbly soft) and smooth, its creamy and glides without any tugging. It is absolutely jet black in color and beats every other kohl I have tried in this aspect. I have never experienced any discomfort while wearing this and it is safe for contact lens wearers. The best part however is the stunning staying power. Most kohls migrate from the waterline to the lower lash line in about 3-4 hours but this one stays for an easy 8 hours on my waterline with minimal fading. Even when it fades, it doesn’t smudge or give raccoon eyes. It has the 2 most desirable characteristics in a kohl - jet black color and long staying power.

It sets into a smudge-proof and waterproof finish few seconds after application. However it does allow some time for play if you want to smudge/soften it. Unlike most other kohls, it doesn’t sheer out and lighten when smudged. In all aspects, Lakme Absolute Kohl is perfect! Its expensive at Rs 675 but it is so so good! The only drawback I can think of is that since its really creamy, it gets used up quickly and some of it gets wasted everytime the pencil is sharpened.

Overall Verdict

Lakme Absolute Kohl Ultimate is deepest black kohl that comes with its own smudger and sharpener. While the smudger may be redundant, the sharpener comes to good use. The kohl is soft and creamy, superbly black and stays on the waterline for 8 hours as claimed. It is smudge-proof and waterproof, doesn’t sheer out when smudged and doesn’t irritate the eyes. Its the best kohl I have tried! Highly recommended!
