Skincare Wednesday : My Current Skincare Routine | Skincare for Oily-Acne prone Skin

Hey everyone!

Today I’m talking about my Current skin care routine which I’ve following since the past 2 weeks or so. All through last month, I was having breakouts on my cheeks and jaw line and while tea tree oil helped a bit, they kept recurring. I recently discovered La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo which was lying in my stash unused since last winter and within a week of using it, my breakouts are gone and my skin looks wonderful! I will use it for some more time before I review but so far, its been a fabulous product!

Face wash for oily skin - 1 - Lakme Perfect Radiance face wash, 2- Iraya Wild Lime face wash, 3- Avera Aloe Apricot Scrub

Face wash for oily skin – 1 – Lakme Perfect Radiance face wash, 2- Iraya Wild Lime face wash, 3- Avera Aloe Apricot Scrub

  1. Lakme Perfect Radiance face wash (Rs 80) : It cleanses well and I like the squeaky clean feeling, it lathers quite thoroughly so would not recommend it to dry skinned women.
  2. Iraya Face Wash (Rs 345) : I alternate between this and the Lakme one. When I want something milder I use this. Reviewed HERE.
  3. Avera Aloe Apricot Scrub (Rs 299) : Its a mild scrub with sparsely distributed large granules and a moisturizing base. Not really my kind of scrub, would recommend it to dry/normal skinned women.

4- Neutrogena Deep clean blackhead eliminating Toner

4- Neutrogena Deep clean blackhead eliminating Toner

  • Neutrogena Deep clean blackhead eliminating Toner (Rs 340) : Good one for oily/acne prone skin. Removes all traces of makeup/oil/dirt and also controls blackheads. Full review HERE.

5- La Roche posay Effaclar Dup, 6- Lotus Herbals 3-in-1 Matte SPF 40 sun screen

5- La Roche posay Effaclar Duo, 6- Lotus Herbals 3-in-1 Matte SPF 40 sun screen

  • La Roche posay Effaclar Duo (Rs 950 for 40 ml) : I had bought this last winter and since my skin was a little dry/combination that time I could not use it. I recently saw a review of another Effaclar product (on Sunny’s blog HERE) and I remembered I had this. There could not have been a better time to use this product than now because my skin was in a very troublesome state with recurring blemishes. But within a week of using this product, my blemishes are gone and my skin feels great! I will review it in a week or two. I use this during day time as well as as a night treatment.
  • Lotus Herbals 3-in-1 Matte SPF 40 sun screen (Rs 225) : My HG sunscreen, highly recommended for oily skin. Check my review HERE.

7 - Kiehsl no. 1 lip balm, 8- Bobbi Brown eye cream

7 – Kiehsl no. 1 lip balm, 8- Bobbi Brown eye cream

  • Kiehls #1 Lip Balm (Rs 495) : In the day I use any lip balm but for the night, I stick to this. It is amazing! Full review HERE.
  • Bobbi Brown eye cream (2.5g free sample) : I had got this as a free sample, it is rich and emollient but did not do anything special for my under eyes. Moisturizes and softens but no effect on pigmentation/puffiness.
[note color=”#FFE4C4″] What products are you using for your skin currently? Have you tried any of the products featured above?Β I am looking for a lightweight eye cream, one that is not too rich and absorbs into the skin, any recommendations? [/note]

Hey, is tea tree oil any good for blemishes? Or is it just for pimples?

    • Corallista
      September 5, 2012 / 7:37 pm

It has anti-bacterial properties and works on pimples/acne but not on marks.

Great post, Ankita. Loved it πŸ™‚
Have been wanting since forever to try lotus sunscreen but I’ve always been skeptical as most sunscreens break me out. Kaya was the only one which hasn’t aggravated my acne so far but it’s SPF content is too less, SPF 15 πŸ™
I’ve been using Sea Weed Toner from almost a year now and it’s quite good. You must give it a try.
Also, wanted to say that I tried tea tree oil after reading one of your reviews about it and I am disappointed πŸ™ I applied it yesterday night as I had 2-3 tiny pimples trying to make their way out. I got up this morning to see they have gone 3 times their original size just in one night and I felt like crying πŸ™ All this happening when I have a party to attend this friday. buhoo hoo πŸ™
Didn’t quite understand what did I do wrong? Is it because I applied more than 1 drop of it on each pimple?

I’m really sorry to hear the Tea Tree Oil didn’t work for you. Are you allergic to it by any chance? Have you tried any other Tea tree oil products before?

      • Manisha
        September 5, 2012 / 10:16 pm

I don’t think so Ankita because I’ve had tea tree facials done few times in past and it never broke me out. Besides, I found one of their other products – Tea Tree Night treatment Anti-blemish Lotion quite impressive. I mean I don’t see any miracle yet but it made my skin’s overall appearance look better. I’ll anyway discontinue it for now. Will give it a try again after a week’s time or so. Fingers crossed.

Any suggestions on what should i wear on my skin tonight before sleeping that should go easy on the acne?

Just aloe vera gel would be best.

La Roche Posay products have been on my wishlist for a long time. Have to give them a try. Have you tried anything else by them?

  10. September 6, 2012 / 12:01 am

LOL I saw a huge surge of visitors from India and it took me a while to figure out what was going on! Thanks so much for linking me, Ankita! I’m glad to see this product works well for you. I haven’t tried the duo, but I squeezed out the last bit of my old tube of Effaclar K a couple of days ago and at the moment the new one is sitting in my bathroom cabinet πŸ™‚

You’re welcome! Your post came at the right time, I really needed something like this and I didn’t realize it was sitting in my cabinet! Have you tried the Avene range for Oily/Acne prone skin by any chance?

I loved the post! Lotus sunscreen makes me look ashy πŸ™

  12. September 8, 2012 / 12:53 pm

To be honest, I just use a Himalaya oil balance face wash and Himalaya apricot scrub 2-3 times a week. No cleansing, toning and sun proofing in my routine! *Embarrased*

I have oily skin and the Mumbai climate makes it worse. With the wedding coming in 3 months I needed a post like this to kick start. Thank you so much for the post!
