Hey everyone!
Shiseido’s cream eye shadows are quite well known for their excellent quality and I recently tried out the shade BK912 Caviar from this range which I’m reviewing today. This range has around 12 shades, mostly of them with a hint of shimmer and these work excellent as a base for powder eye shadows and alone as well.
Price : Rs 1600 for 6 g
What Shiseido says about the Shimmering Cream Eye color :
A lightweight cream eye shadow with a radiant, lustrous finish that maintains a just-applied fresh look for 16 hours without smudging or creasing. Applies easily with your fingertip for a smooth, even finish. Hydrates skin with Super Hydro-Wrap Vitalizing DE.

My take on the product
Shiseido’s Shimmering Cream eye color comes in a tub packaging with a screw on lid, much like any other cream eye product like gel liners, paint pots etc. The shape of the lid is the Shiseido signature packaging which is seen in most of their products. The packaging is classic and simple and quite convenient for the product texture.
It has a light creamy texture that applies and blends very easily. It is really well pigmented but can be sheered out if desired using a blending brush. It doesn’t get patchy or streaky when applied and blended like cream eye shadows do some times. It can be layered without any uneven-ness. I picked up a basic black shade that works very well for a quick smokey eye or as a base for colored eye shadows to add some sultry smokiness to the look. I love the texture, and how easy and effortless it is to work with. The only aspect that I feel it under performs is the staying power. It stays around 7-8 hours on my lids (alone, with no primer or powder eye shadow on top) after which I begin to see faint signs of creasing. I do have oily lids which is why probably it creases sooner on me. When a powder eye shadow is layered on top it, the eye makeup stays fresh and crease free for 10 hours easily. If the product hadn’t claimed 16 hours of wear, I would have probably put the staying power in the PRO list but seeing that it doesn’t fulfil its claims and its an expensive product, I feel there is room for improvement there.
The one unique thing about this formula which differentiates it from MAC Paint pots is that the formula doesn’t ‘set’ on application and hence it doesn’t acquire that dried look that paint pots do sometimes. The formula is claimed to be hydrating and my interpretation of that claim is that it doesn’t dry completely on the lid and hence doesn’t give the parched, tight look which looks particularly unflattering on aging eyes.
Overall, the formula is fabulous and one would have no trouble working with it!
Another good thing about this product is that one gets 6 g of product which more than MAC Paint pots (5 g for Rs 1100) and since the product is quite well pigmented, a small quantity is needed for each application and 6 g would last a good amount of time.
The shade BK912 Caviar is an inky black shade with subtle green shimmer. The shimmer is really minute and sparse so it doesn’t really show up on the eyes which works well because it can be used with any color as a basic black base! The shade is perfect for an instant smokey eye. Just a few dabs of the product on the lid and a blending brush can create an effortless black smokey eye that is sufficiently long wearing as well.
If you’re investing in a product like this, it makes sense to pick up a shade thats versatile and one that would get a lot of use. If you’re into smokey eyes, this shade is perfect for you. If you like metallic soft neutrals, you can check out the gold and copper shade from this range. The shimmer in each is quite subtle and beautiful so these don’t like glitterfest on your lids and can be worn everyday as well.
I’ve worn it in my Bridal Makeup Look no. #2, click HERE for more photos :
The GOOD about Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye color :
- Soft, smooth creamy texture
- Well pigmented
- Easy to blend
- Long wearing
- Available in gorgeous range of shades
- The shimmer is subtle and beautiful
- Work great as base for powder eye shadows
- Can be worn alone
- Don’t dry and set on the lids
- Good quantity (6 g)
The NOT-SO-GOOD about Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye color :
- Not easily available in India
- Staying power when worn alone doesn’t fulfill claims
Overall Verdict
Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye color is a hydrating cream eye shadow that applies and blends flawlessly giving long wearing color on the eyes. The texture and pigmentation is fabulous and it works great as a base for powder eye shadows as well. I absolutely love this versatile product and I would recommend these to everyone! The only area where it doesn’t perform as claimed is the staying power. It claims 16 hours but on my oily lids, it wears only about 8 hours without any eye shadow on top which is good by itself but not as claimed.
