Oily Skin? Looking for the perfect everyday wear foundation? Looks like I may have found what you need!
Since I wear full makeup mostly for taking pictures for the blog, I always pick up foundation with medium to full coverage. For everyday wear, I generally only wear a very light coverage tinted moisturizer and concealer. For the first time recently, I picked up a sheer foundation from Chambor – the Ultra Matt and Oil free description totally caught my eye. It was an impulse purchase but a really good one!
Price : Rs 695 for 30 ml
What Chambor says about the Foundation :
My take on the product
The Chambor Sheer Delight Ultra Matt Oil Free foundation comes in a navy blue tube packaging. It has a screw on cap and a nozzle that dispenses product when the product is squeezed out. Indicative of the foundation texture, the finish of the tube is matte. I like the sleek, classic look of the packaging and its sturdy, travel friendly shape but since the tube is opaque, one cannot see how much product is left inside. Since the foundation has a thick texture, the squeeze tube packaging works perfectly and one doesn’t end up with too much product which might have been the case if the texture was runny.
The consistency is like that of a thick cream but it doesn’t have the rich slippery feel of a cream. Its easy enough to spread but because its oil-free, it would not spread easily on your skin if you have dry patches. I tried applying this unmoisturized skin (just for trial) and the final look was slightly dry looking skin. This foundation is specifically for oily skin and I would recommend using a light moisturizer underneath to ensure that the foundation goes on smooth. One of the great things about this foundation is that it doesn’t need a lot of work to blend. Because its not too liquidy, it doesn’t move around too much and just 2-3 strokes with the fingers are enough for a nice even finish. The coverage is sheer-to-medium which means it will even out the skin tone but will not cover up dark spots/blemishes/under eye pigmentation. For a clean everyday look, it makes more sense to use a concealer in the troublesome areas and use a light foundation for the rest of the face.
So for everyday wear, this is just fantastic as it gives a very fresh, clean look to the face without looking like a heavy mask. The finish is matte but not a dry looking matte. It has more of a velvety-matte finish. It does not oxidise on me and has quite decent oil control as well. It is long wearing – I wore it for 12 full hours while testing this and was out for at least 7 of these hours wherein I traveled and walked quite a bit, sweating profusely, but the foundation did not melt off my skin. I did need to blot my T-zone about 3-4 times during the entire 12 hour period but the rest of my face looked clean and fresh.
The only serious drawback of this foundation is the limited shade range. It has only 3 shades, I was matched with the Medium shade – 03 Ginger which is slightly darker and more yellow than my skin tone but since its sheer, it doesn’t look starkly mismatched with my skin. It would have been nice if they had more shades, with more neutral beige undertones as well.
The one thing that I really liked it as that for once, a brand is marketing a product specifically for Oily skin. There are way too many foundations out there for ‘All Skin types’ which just makes it more confusing for women to pick out what they really need! I wish more brands came out with more specific products like these.
Quick Overview :
For skin type : Oily, Combination (over moisturized skin)
Finish : Matte
Coverage : Sheer-to-medium
Staying power : Long wearing (holds up well in heat and humidity)
Oil Control : Good
Best tool to apply : Because its oil-free and is thick in consistency, fingers are the best tool as the warmth will help in blending it better.
I’m wearing this foundation in my recent FOTD. As you can see, it doesn’t give enough coverage to hide the unsightly blemishes on my jawline but in person, it looks quite natural.
The GOOD about Chambor Sheer Delight Ultra Matt Oil Free Foundation :
- Sturdy, Travel friendly packaging
- Sleek tube, can easily fit into a purse
- Blends easily
- Gives a natural sheer-to-medium coverage
- Matte finish
- Doesn’t look dry on the skin
- Good oil control
- Long wearing
- Holds up well in heat and humidity
- Suitable for everyday wear
- Did not oxidize on my skin
- Non-comodogenic
- Did not break me out or irritate existing breakouts.
The NOT-SO-GOOD about Chambor Sheer Delight Ultra Matt Oil Free Foundation :
- Limited shade range
- Opaque packaging, doesn’t allow to one see how much product is used up
Overall Summary
Chambor Sheer Delight Ultra Matt Oil Free Foundation is a light coverage, long wearing, matte finish foundation that works superbly as an everyday foundation for oily skin. It is easy to apply, poses no difficult in blending, doesn’t give a dry matte finish and holds up well in heat and humidity as well. The ONLY real drawback is the limited shade selection (3), everyone may not find a close match!
Rating : 4.5/5

Hi Ankita,
Your review is detailed , liked it. This is gonna b my next purchase. One query I have is can I wear my compact on the top of this foundation. I use Chambor Compact but it gives me a powerdery look. Plz suggest.
Many thanks.
Hi Sujala, please use a fluffy powder brush instead of the puff that comes with it. The sponge/puff applicators pick up too much product. You can also just spray a little face mist on the face to get rid of the powderiness.
these are really valuable tips. i am having trouble with the revlon colorstay foundation and I can inculcate these to get rid of the powderiness.
Thanky
Looks like u ve put an end to my hunt for a perfect daily wear foundation. On comparing this with the clinique anti blemish foundation, which one would you suggest for acne prone, oily combo skin?
Hi Shruthi, if you want everyday wear sheer coverage go for Chambor. Clinique is full coverage and slightly heavy on the skin, best for occasions.
Hey, nice write up. I just have the same question as Sujala here. Can I use compact on top of it? Does it look too cakey after doing so? In my case, I have got colorbar triple act compact.
I wouldnt suggest using Colorbar Triple Act one over it, as far as I know its creamy. You can use a sheer powder compact over it, in fact I suggest that you do. Make sure to use a fluffy powder brush instead of the sponge/puff applicator that comes with it.
Hi Ankita,
Can you please suggest sum gud tinted moisturizer for daily use. I have combination skin and which brand in tinted moisturizer do you use?
Hi Preeti, I rarely use Tinted Moisturizers and frankly there are very few in India. The best thing is to make your own by mixing foundation with moisturizer and storing it in a bottle. Though if you want, you can try Maybelline BB cream, its good.
with a limited shade selection, I never happen to find a match! I have had a bad experience with Chambor in terms of foundation shade, so I think I’ll stay away from it, but should they bring out more shades, I’ll def. buy this. nice, detailed review:)
wow such a nice detailed review.. and so fast thanks a lot Ankita..
I will buy this now as I have oily skin and wanted something for everyday wear
Ankita dear your complexion is so lovely and glowy-ish! What’s your secret? And by the way, please never ever feel conscious about the so-called “unsightly blemishes” you say you have on your jawline! I’m sure I’m not the only one who didn’t notice anything at all until you pointed them out, and even then after having to look v-e-r-y carefully! They are only slight and I wouldn’t call them “unsightly” at all. Anyway, your skin looks so chamakti hui (sorry, couldn’t think of a more apt description) that our attention is hugely diverted!
Thank u so much
I think its just regular skin care routine. I do the CTM routine at least twice a day, try to drink 3 litres of water, use face packs every alternate day and use a illuminator while taking pictures for the blog
I have bought this foundation and im loving evry bit of it..i totally agree with u on the fact tht they hve limited shades. the shade given to me looks ghastly white initially but then blends in aftr a while…
Thats true, mine looks a little too yellow but on blending seems to sheer out and adapt. They should definitely have more shades, 3 is hardly enough!
seems to be a good product Ankita..out of inglot ysm cream n this. which one is better for oily acne prone skin??
Definitely this Preetha! Inglot YSM is better for combination skin or for use during winters.
Have to try this out. Hope I get a good match for my skintone
Hi Ankita!
Nice post.. I had been looking for the reviews since I saw the ad in Femina. Thanks for the review, btw what Sunscreen/spf lotion would you suggest to use under makeup like this? My skin is almost like yours.. just a bit on the oilier side..
I would not suggest using a matte sunscreen like Lotus 3-in-1 SPF40 because that might make the foundation a little bit difficult to blend since it has a slightly dry texture already. You can try Neutrogena or Lakme (the one for oily skin). But if you have really oily skin, I’d say stick to Lotus 3-in-1 but wait for 10 minutes before applying foundation. Another option is to use a face mist a few minutes after applying sunscreen to make the skin slightly damp and then applying the foundation for easier blending.
I liked the formula but the shade selection is really poor!
Good Review Dear,
I am currently using loreal true match mineral foundation powder,
once its over I will surely try Chambor foundation.
Sounds like a good product, but I think I will continue to explore powder foundations. Bangalore is good for my skin, though a little drying. Havent had a major breakout since ‘ve been here, touch wood. Although the pollution does make my skin look dull at times.
No breakouts sounds good! If you want something to add some glow, do try out the Lakme Perfect Radiance capsules, they are really good! Also use Aloe vera regularly, it really helps!
will this shade suit nc42? also is this good for combination skin? I would love to try this one as its sheer and matte! good for office wear na?
