Maybelline has recently launched some gorgeous shades in the Colorsensational lipstick range called The Jewels. I’ve seen 6 shades at counters and most of these are autumn/winter shades ~ berry, plum, red, fuchsia, wine and amethyst. Today I’m reviewing the shade Berry Brilliant from this range.
Price : Rs 350 for 3.9 g
My take on the product
The lipsticks come in the same basic packaging as the regular Colorsensational range except for the reflective pink caps. The transparent fuchsia cap of the Jewel range has reflective rainbow striped patterns which distinguishes it from the pinks in the regular range. I find the packaging quite nice and attractive! The new lipstick with the cellophane wrapper has ‘The Jewels’ written on it as shown in the above image.
The texture of the lipstick is really smooth and it has a wet balm-like shine to it which is apparent in the swatch as well. I found the formula quite moisturizing and my lips felt soft and nourished even though I wore it over a drying lip liner. Its a deep shade and hence applies very pigmented in just a single swipe but the pigmentation can be built more intense in 2-3 swipes. The color is staining and hence stays for a really long time. It wore for around 4.5-5 hours on me including meals after which the glossiness wore off leaving behind a deep fuchsia pink stain which stayed till I removed it with a makeup remover. It did not settle into lines. But here may be a little bit of bleeding around the lip line during meals (depending on what you’re eating!). I’ve tried a few shades from the regular Colorsensational range and I find the Jewel lipstick formula more moisturizing. What I love most about this lipstick is how light and thin it applies on the lips and gives intense long lasting color in that thin layer. I am definitely going back to pick up the Fuchsia shade from this range!
The shade Berry Brilliant is a deep plum-berry shade with a slightly glossy balm-like finish and no shimmer. I LOVE this color family of lipsticks and this shade is no exception. It has the perfect balance of brightness and depth and looks just lovely on the lips! The shade gets pinker on me leaning more toward fuchsia as it fades. I think this shade would make a gorgeous bright pink for deeper skin tones. If you’re into berry/plum lipsticks, this is a beautiful shade to own!
The shade is similar to (not identical) to MAC Rebel lipstick. I will do a comparison post of the 2 lipsticks next.
