Lakme has recently relaunched the Aquashine lip color in a new black packaging and improved formulation. If you’re unfamiliar with the Aquashine lip color, its a 3-in-1 lip color that has color, gloss and conditioning agents. Today I’m reviewing the shade Plum from this range.
Price : Rs 425 for 2.55 ml
What Lakme says about the product :
Glide color onto your lips like velvet. The super soft applicator gives your lips a shape like never before. Leaving you with the perfect smile. Its a lipstick, Lip Balm and a Lip Gloss all in one.
Remove cap. Twist body of pen until the lip color is seen at the tip of the nib. Apply on lips for a smooth glossy finish.
My take on the product
I have previously tried the shade Fig and I really like the formula as well the packaging of the lip color. It comes in a long tube packaging with a slanted sponge tip with tiny perforations from where the lip color oozes out when the body is twisted. With 1-2 gentle twists, one gets enough color to apply on the entire lip area. If you want to build up the color intensity, twist it 1-2 more times and layer the product on your lips. The slanted tip applies color quite evenly on the lips. The only drawback of this packaging is that if you end up twisting out too much (if you’re in a hurry or something), you’ll end up wasting the product.
The lip color has a fluid gloss-like consistency and it feels very smooth on the lips. It is almost completely non-sticky and feels comfortable and light. It has a glossy finish and a very moisturizing formula and feels pretty much like a pigmented lip gloss. I really like full coverage glossy moisturizing lip colors and this one fits the bill perfectly! The shade is non-staining and I get about 4 hours of wear from this though if you eat a heavy meal, it’ll wear off faster (same as lip gloss). Overall, I really like the formula, it is exactly described by the brand though I would liked it to be staining so that it wore longer!
Even though the product is great, I feel the quantity 2.55 ml is little less for the price. The lip color also has a fruity, slightly coconuty fragrance which I personally like but everyone may not like it. As for its performance compared to the previous packaging, I find the new one quite similar with maybe slightly better moisturization but nothing majorly different.
The shade Plum :
Plum is a reddened plum shade with a hint of red shimmer. It is lovely shade and will look great on all skin tones. I think it’ll look particularly lovely on duskier complexions. The reddish undertone make it more wearable for me as I find pure plums a little dull. The shimmer is very fine and subtle and I frankly didn’t notice it till I took the swatch pictures. The shade can be worn as a stain using just a little amount of product or too full intensity. I think it looks pretty either way! If you find pure plums a little difficult to carry, this shade might fare better. I’d recommend this to everyone who’d like to experiment with plums especially duskier beauties!

The GOOD about Lakme Aquashine Lip Color :
- Convenient, easy to use packaging – applicator applies product evenly
- Smooth fluid texture
- Moisturizing
- Non-sticky
- Feels light and comfortable on the lips
- Glossy finish gives a healthy shine to lips
- Good wear time
- Non staining (could be a pro for some)
- Doesn’t feather/bleed
- Doesn’t settle into lip lines
- Doesn’t get patchy as it fades
The NOT-SO-GOOD about Lakme Aquashine Lip Color :
- Less quantity for the price
- Non-staining (con for me, could be a pro for you!)
Overall Verdict
Lakme Aquashine Lip Color is a 3-in-1 lip color that combines the color of a lipstick, the shine of a lip gloss and a moisture of a lip balm. It feels really light and comfortable on the lips and wear well for about 4 hours. It is non-staining and doesn’t settle into lip lines. The lip color can be worn sheer as a stain or to full intensity and it looks great either way! Overall, I really like the formula! The shade Plum is reddened plum with subtle red shimmer that’ll look great on everyone, especially on duskier skin tones.
