Hey everyone!
The current hot weather is just the worst time for us Oily skinned gals and here are 6 products that help me keep the oil and acne at bay :
1. Mattifier /Oil control lotion
This is the most Basic thing that works for me. My skin has become so so oily that no sunscreen or oil-free moisturizer except for Lotus Herbals 3-in-1 matte Sunscreen SPF 40 is working for me. I do use Lotus Herbals Alphamoist moisturizer most days but my skin becomes greasy and dull in almost an hour after applying anything apart from the 3-in-1 matte sunscreen. In makeup, I use MAC Oil control lotion and L’oreal Base Magique Primer for delay the appearance of oil on my T-zone.

2. Loose Powder
Your best friend during the summer! They may not be travel friendly but loose powders are better at oil control than most compacts. Keep a loose powder at home and carry a compact in your purse for touch ups. I’m currently using Clinique Blended Face Powder which I like but it doesn’t control oil beyond 3-3.5 hours which is a bummer! If you’re on a budget, you can try Lakme Rose Powder. Other options include loose powders from The Body Shop and Bourjois.
3. Oil blotting sheets
They come in very handy if you are out, just a quick dab at the shiny areas of the face can fix a lot! They are different from regular tissues and absorb oil instantly. I use The Body Shop Tea Tree oil blotting sheets. I think Clean and Clear Oil blotting sheets are also available in the market though I’ve never used those.
4. Clay based face packs
Clay helps in drawing out the oil and dirt from the pores leaving the skin clean and shine free. I like using Lakme Sun Expert After Sun Face mask as it not only gives a cooling sensation but is clay based as well. Aroma Magic Calamine Pack is also clay based and does a good job but has the most terrible garlic smell. One can use the good old Multani Mitti mixed with water as well. Lotus Herbals Tea Tree face pack is also clay based and has added benefit of tea tree oil. Another product that deserves a mention here is Himalaya Neem Face Pack which I’ve run out of and hence not pictured here, it really works in reducing pimples and oiliness.
5. Tea Tree oil
I’ve stopped using Benzoyl Peroxide for my breakouts since some time, its is quite harmful and makes the skin extremely dry and flaky. I have switched to Tea Tree Oil (from TBS) which reduces the size of the zits in 2-3 days. I’m quite happy with the results!
6. Aloe Vera Gel
It is one of my all time favorite skin care products. Whenever I get an allergic rash or breakout, I slather my face with this and it works like magic. I used to use Dr. Jain’s which I found at the nearest medical shop earlier but since I’ve shifted now, I can only get my hands on the Brihans one which is good as well.

Can you tell me where can I find clean and clear oil blotting sheets….I searched most of the places/chemist, but it is not available 🙁
I haven’t seen in anywhere in a while, if I do I’ll let u know!
Ankita, my skin is so much like yours and I do use alot of the products that you have mentioned above. A question since you have my same skin type. Is there a foundation that you can recommend which mattifies and is as light on skin as the Lotus 3 in 1 spf40 sunscreen? I am so looking for something with the same texture and feel, it’s so light that you totally forget that you have anything on your skin. I really love that sunscreen to bits.
I haven’t found the perfect one that fits the description like that yet though you can check out the Lotus matte foundation, it has a similar feel as the sunscreen and is quite decently priced as well.
Thanks a lot, Ankita. I will sure buy that 🙂 you have been very helpful.
Very nice post ankita . . .
I am sticking to gel based sunscreen to avoid pore clogging . . . plus a litlle compact goes a long way 🙂
Great, which sunscreen are you using currently?
THis post is very useful .. I badly needed a face powder and i dint know which one to buy.. thx for sharing..
You’re welcome!
Thanks for the recommendations, Ankita 🙂
I love the lotus sunscreen and knowing that it suits your skin as well, I’m surely going to try out the other products!
Great 🙂
thank you so much for this post…..very helpful…
You’re welcome Nisha!
Hi! Thanks a lot for sharing. I really love your blog :).
I have some acne marks from on my cheeks :-(. Any suggestions on which face pack / home remedy might be useful?
Have you tried any another Aroma Magic pack?
The lady at the store was recommending Aroma magic Enzyme peel saying she could see open pores on my cheeks (I use Fab India tea tree toner) , but I was scared of buying it because it contains AHA and I think that makes one’s skin more sensitive to the sun. Correct me if I am wrong.
All amazing products.. esp aloe vera gel..
I swear by Aloe Vera gel, its like a magic potion for the skin!
Thanks Natasha! I’m not aware about this fact about AHA Natasha. I have tried the Aroma Magic Beauty Pack, Glossy pack and Witch Hazel pack. You can try the Witch Hazel pack, its good for acne and the Beauty Pack gives an awesome glow to the skin. I’ve also been using Lotus Alpha moist which has AHA but I don’t think it has made my skin more sensitive to the sun. For acne marks, if you have pigmentation etc, that’ll get cured with time with a good CTM routine but if you have pits, only laser surgery can remedy that. You can use multani mitti + sandalwood powder pack.
Thank you for the reply, Keep up the good work :). I will try out the Witch Hazel / Beauty pack.
I think I should give this lotus one a try now 🙂 I’ve been using Kaya Daily Use Sunscreen with SPF15 for more than a year now and I’m really happy with the results except for the fact that SPF content is too less. It never broke me out and my skin never felt greasy no matter for how long I have it on my face. Only complaint is that it’s only good for an hour or so 🙁
Benzoyl peroxide is harmful…it makes the skin lose its natural glow…….its quite strong a chemical….besides using benzene derivatives on the skin is not a good idea:)
Hey where can I find this aloe vera gel…..do regular chemists shop keep this?
This Mac oil control lotionlooks good…..andI'm getting the himalaya neem face pack…..
I think I used to buy it from medplusbeauty.com. You can find Brihans in many online stores.
My must have product is FE panchpushp toner I always want to have one bottle always… Though it lasts for 6 months after opening the seal
