Its Wednesday and its time for the weekly dose of skincare! Today I’m reviewing an amazing moisturizer from Vichy ~ the Aqualia Thermal cream.
I received a 15 ml jar of this product free with purchases from Medplusbeauty.com. I could not find the same product on Indian shopping sites but I did find on Vichy USA site. However, a lotion form of this can be found at Medplusbeauty.com (Price Rs 790 for 40 ml)
What Vichy says about the product :
Fortifying and soothing 24Hr hydration in a rich, refreshing cream. With mineral-rich Vichy Thermal Water and Activ Hyaluronine™ to help strengthen the natural protective function of the skin and soothe sensations of discomfort.
Ingredient Innovation:
Vichy Thermal Water + Activ Hyaluronine™, patent pending, combination of hyaluronic acid and lipidure proven for lasting moisture. Micro-encapsulated and delivered in a “sprinkler-like” system for 24Hr hydration. In a comforting yet refreshing cream that melts into skin. Non-greasy. Non-sticky.
Results:
For up to 24 hours, skin is intensely hydrated with moisture, feels soothed and comfortable, visibly fortified, with increased radiance.

(N=50) : reduced skin sensitivity
My take on the product
I am big fan of Vichy products since my experience with the Normaderm Chrono Active night cream and I was quite delighted to get this product free with my purchase. I did not expect a lot from this though as its meant to dry, sensitive skin but after using it, I have to say its an amazing product!
The cream comes in a tapered tub packaging with a screw on lid which I quite like. The tab is made of thick good quality glass-like plastic which gives it a very sophisticated as well as a sturdy feel. There is always the issue of hygiene with the tub packaging but with this one I’m glad its a tub because I’m sure I would have squeezed out more than required if it were in a tube. The quantity required for each application is so less that I find the tub more convenient!
The cream has a very light weight texture. Being oily skinned, I have used many oil-free and light moisturizers but this is lighter than everything else I’ve used. A tiny amount is needed and it spreads and sinks into the skin within seconds leaving no trace of greasiness behind. Its like a magic tub of pure hydration, no greasy feel or need to rub and massage! And all this when its meant for dry, sensitive skin! I have used it when my skin was combination in the winters (with some very dry patches) and on very oily skin (in summers), and it works well with both. It soothed my dryness during winters and I did not need the feel for a heavier moisturizer. I’m using it currently when my skin has gone back to its very oily state and I still find it suitable for my skin. My skin just drinks it up within seconds and I do not experience greasiness after application(until about 3-4 hours which is normal with any moisturizer). It does not leave any cast or residue behind. My skin feels soft, soothed and moisturized after application. Overall, its an excellent moisturizer and I can see myself repurchasing(purchasing rather since I got this one free with purchase) this one for sure!
It has a faint botanical fragrance which I really like. It adds to the whole light weight , pure hydration feel of the product.
I will definitely recommend it for people with sensitive and I think its really great for combination skins as well! It is paraben-free and non-comodogenic. Since it does not contain SPF, one can easily use this in the night as well.
This is a wonderful product and the only con I can think of is that if someone prefers SPF in their moisturizer, they would find this one lacking in that aspect (though I would advise using a sunscreen separately since most moisturizers with SPF do not contain PA++ protection)
The GOOD about Vichy Aqualia Thermal Cream :
- Convenient, sturdy packaging
- Light texture
- Spreads and absorbs easily
- No greasy after feel
- Gives a boost of hydration to the skin
- Soothes and softens
- Suitable for all skin types
- Free from parabens
- Non-comodogenic
- Has a soothing botanical fragrance
- Can be used at night as well (no SPF)
- Very small amount needed for each application
The NOT-SO-GOOD about Vichy Aqualia Thermal Cream :
- If you prefer your moisturizer with SPF you might not want to pick this
- Not easily available in tub form, available in Lotion form
Overall Verdict
Vichy Aqualia Thermal Cream is excellent light-weight moisturizer that gives a ton of hydration to the skin without making the skin greasy. The texture is so so light, it spreads and absorbs into the skin within seconds leaving it soothed and moisturized. It is meant for dry and sensitive skin but I find it working for me practically the whole year round (my skin is combination in winters and oily/acne prone in summers). I would definitely pick up a tub once I’m through with my current one, HIGHLY recommended for dry/sensitive/combination skin type! It is free from parabens and is non-comodogenic as well.
