Maybelline has recently a few products in the market – the Dream touch range of face makeup, the Colorsensational High Shine lipsticks and the Brown/gold ad Black/Silver Swirl gel liners. Today I’m reviewing the Dream touch blush in shade 05 (its too bad they did not give the shades names this time! The dream mousse blushes had names)
Price : Rs 375 for 7.5 g
The concept seems similar to the Dream mousse blush range – blush in a pot but there are significant differences between the two.
- Firstly, the price and the quantity, the previous range was Rs 205 for 5.75 g while this one is Rs 375 for a whopping 7.5 g!
- Secondly, while the previous range was mousse formula, the new one is creamier to touch and feels like a sheer cream blush.
- Lastly, the staying power of the new ones is much better than the previous!
Overall, it seems like an improvement but this is where the SHIMMER comes in. The new range is loaded with shimmer. The shimmer is still manageable but they have made these really sheer and light so I don’t see these working for duskier skin tones. If you layer it too much in hopes of getting more color, the shimmer tends to accentuate the open pores around the inner cheeks. The upside of the shimmer is that it gives a highlighting effect and hence a nice glow to the face. You can see a lot of light bouncing off my cheekbones in the images and that is because of it. So for light to medium skin tones, this would make a nice product, like a blush and highlighter rolled into one that gives subtle natural color along with a soft glow but for dusky skin tones, I would suggest using it as a highlighter or as a base for a blush suited to your skin tone, the shade by itself will not show up well.
The packaging is easy to use but can harbour bacteria easily since it’s a creamy product in pot packaging. Therefore either pick up product using a brush, a Q-tip or sanitized fingers to keep it hygienic.
The texture is creamy and pigmentation is sheer. It blends very easily onto the skin to give a dewy finish. The shimmer is non-gritty and does not look overdone unless you really apply too much product, in that case you will find it accentuating the pores. It did make my skin slightly oily after about 4-5 hours of wear but nothing that cannot be taken care of with a dab of tissue/compact. The staying power is good, somewhere around 8 hours over foundation. It begins to fade a bit about 6 hours of wear but even after 8 hours, I can still see the color on my cheeks.
The formula itself is pretty good, I wish they had worked a bit more on the shades itself. Sheer would have worked just fine if there were more color options for all skin tones with perhaps a little more color and less shimmer. I actually do like sheer cheek colors more as they are easier to use and you can’t go overboard with the application. So this is one upside of this blush, beginners will find it easy to use.
I have been talking a lot about the shimmer which makes it sound like it contains big chunky glitters or something. That is not the case, the shimmer actually doesn’t look loud on the cheeks at all, its just the fact that the shimmer to color ratio seems a little high for a product being marketed as a blush! The shimmer can only be seen by someone standing at close distance and that too if you’ve layered the product heavily.
The shade 05 :
It’s a peachy pink shade – really sheer and natural which gives a soft barely-there flush to the face. I quite like how it brings glow to my face. It would go well with almost all lipsticks. I would recommend this to fair/medium skin tones.
The color came out a little more pigmented on the skin than how it appears here. The camera always makes the colors appear a little less intense but I’ve added many images, I hope you can detect the color on my cheeks!
The GOOD about Maybelline Dream touch blush :
- Attractive packaging and look of the product
- Soft, creamy texture
- Glides and blends easily on the skin
- Does not get patchy/uneven
- Excellent staying power
- Sheer color gives natural flushed look to the cheeks
- Shimmer highlights and imparts a nice glow
- Does not make the skin overly oily
- Huge quantity!
- Easily available across Maybelline counters
The NOT-SO-GOOD about Maybelline Dream touch blush :
- Shimmer to color ratio is too high, a little less shimmer and little more color would have been better
- Limited shades especially for duskier skin tones
Overall Verdict
The new Maybelline Dream Touch blush comes in a round pot packaging with a creamy, smooth texture, excellent blendability and good staying power. Its a sheer cheek product containing shimmer which acts like a blush and highlighter rolled into one that gives subtle natural color along with a soft glow. While formula itself seems great, I wish the selection had more shades for duskier skins, the current shades are mostly suited for fair/medium skin tones. However, it would work well as a highlighter on all skin tones.
I do recommend it for the formula, you can go ahead and purchase it if the shade is to your liking.
Rating: 4.25/5
p.s – The previous range of Dream mousse blushes had the problem of drying up in time, if this one begins to dry up or shows any other unpleasant property, I will update this post.

Looks good on you, just not my type of blush!
I do like it gives a bit of freshness and glow but I wish it had more color and less shimmer!
